CD Description
A graduate of the music technology program at New York University, Jon DeRosa knows a thing or two about putting soundstogether. Aarktica demonstrates DeRosa's penchant for experimental soundscapes more than the composer/musician's other, more straightforward projects (like the slow-core Americanaoutfit Pale Horse & Rider). BLEEDING LIGHT is the fourth Aarktica release, and continues DeRosa's explorations in droning, ambient post-rock.
There are lyrics and singing here, and semblances of traditional song structure, as on "OJ Gude", but these are sublimated to the overall sonic wash, becoming part of the textural canvas that stretches from the beginning to the end of BLEEDING LIGHT. DeRosa plays guitar, organ, piano, and sings, while contributing a host of found sounds, backwards loops, and snippets of aural collage. Other musicians lend horns, bass, drums, and programming to the proceedings, and the result is a cross between contemporary electronica, film music, experimental rock, 20th-century classical, and trance music. BLEEDING LIGHT is an intriguing, ear-opening listening experience.
