Synopsis

A ramped-up techno soundtrack bleats out adrenaline-pumping action tunes while leather-clad vampire slayers smash through walls and floors and ceilings, break windows with their bodies, and occasionally defy gravity. Cascades of flying glass sparkle in the air and crimson pools of blood shine on the floors of warehouse dens where the hungry creatures hide. This is BLADE: TRINITY, the third instalment of the film series adapted from Marvel comics. Here, a new challenge faces the preternaturally sharp hunter, Blade (Wesley Snipes), when a group of vamps resurrect the long-slumbering 'Drake' (Dominic Purcell)--the ancient and all-powerful Count Dracula--and Blade meets the ultimate opponent. Teaming up with the Nightstalkers, a group of similar-minded hunters led by tough slayer-hottie Abigail (Jessica Biel) and her joke-a-minute partner Hannibal (Ryan Reynolds), Blade is ready for battle. However, Drake's handlers are an unruly bunch themselves, with sassy goth wench Danica (Parker Posey in a wonderfully exaggerated performance) doing her best to make things as unpleasant as possible. What's more, while Danica's vamp team is harvesting homeless people for their blood, the Nightstalkers' scientist creates a potion that can not only kill Drake but can take the entire bloodsucking race with him. And thus, David S. Goyer continues the BLADE cinema series, satisfying fans with plenty of the nocturnal monster mystique they so desperately crave.

1.0 out of 5 stars only 1* bc I can't put a minus!, 2 Jun 2006

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I enjoyed the original Blade; it had moves, music, and menace. Not so the sequel with it's contemptible CGI fight scenes, or (and I didn't think it would be possible) with this feeble effort.

Snipes should have been the right person to play the character Blade, the trouble is, the success of the first has gone to his head and the sequels have been increasingly ego-massaging. He barely makes an effort in the fights now with the exception of doing a Vogue that Madonna would be proud of.

He wanders through each combat as though he's God, therefore, there's never any sense of danger, or excitement, or tension. And because he's the Uber half-man half-vampire, he's clearly too important to have to make any kind of effort that might somehow draw us into any sense of believability in his character.

I am a stalwart; I've sat through some extremely dull movies, but just over half way through this one even I switched off and went to bed! But because of tenacity I watched the remainder the next day.

If you're looking for more edge-of-the-seat excitement than what this disappointment provides, might I suggest popping along to an infant school's Nativity play.... it's guaranteed to have more tension!

The real shame about this pathetic DVD is that it had the potential to be sooo much more. The general premise of Blade having to face the progenitor of vampires (who'd been woken from his eternal slumber), teaming with others bent on a similar mission, and combining their resources for an all-out monumental final battle against the forces of evil...... is...... what this film SHOULD have been about but WASN'T.

I agree with the other reviewer's comment about the blatant ipod plugging. When film makers do product placement, it should be with intelligence and relevance to the plot, not simply thrown in without any kind of justification (other than for pleasing their backers).

Do yourself a favour, skip this movie, it's simply junk.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy it if you Own the Other 2, 2 Jun 2006

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
It is very difficult to be impartial when reviewing Blade Trinity because it really is a poor film. Without going into great detail because it isn't worth the words, it gets 2 stars because in terms of fight sequences and special effects this film follows on quite nicely from Blade 2 but does not surpass it in any way. To be honest the worst thing bout this film is that it is just a big long swear-fest; there is a huge amount of name calling and swearing, to degrees that are unbelievably unnecessary and do not do anything for the plot. The inclusion of Paul Levesque (a.k.a. Triple H) was not such a bad idea because the guy is huge and can look the part of an adversary, but the fact that the only words he uses seem to begin with 'F'is really bad. Plus, he is supposed to be a vampire, undead and all that, yet he gets scared and runs away from a TINY dog. Ok the dog was a vampire (yes you read that right) but so is he so he should have no problems. Other problems with this film include the fact that Ryan Reynolds' does not fit in, Kris Kristofferson is cut out much too early and even Wesley Snipes is not up to the usual Blade standard; by watcing this film you will notice that Blade doesn't have the comic element present in the first two films, and this makes Snipes come across as if all he wanted to do was get his pay cheque. Oh and one more thing, they bring Dracula into it. Please. It is a great shame because this film could have been fantastic, but unfortunately I have to say that you should not consider buying it unless you already have the other 2 and want to complete the trilogy. On its own, this DVD is pointless with a capital LESS.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and lame, 13 Jan 2006
I totally agree with the 1 star reviewer. The vampires in this installment are absolutely pathetic, not once do you feel any of the protagonists are in danger. The fight scenes get so boooring after a short while! Why are they all kicking each other, don't the vampires have guns?! And its all wire-fighting and special effects, and the actual martial arts used are lame, the kind of fighting you were doing with your mates when you were 6 years old. Half the kicks and punches wouldn't push an old lady over, but people go flying across the room. The vampires in Blade 2 were way more menacing.

The Dracula character is contemptible! I mean, he looks like Bilbo Baggins! Pure evil my foot, he should have been leading a vampire army and laying waste to the city, not killing blind women and being mentally challenged by a little girl! Blade's sidekicks have as much acting ability and screen presence as a boiled egg. My toes curled and my buttocks cringed every time Abigail loaded her ridiculous playlist into an MP3 player before going out to kill vampires. That made her look like a looser goth teenager. As for Hannibal King, he is easily the most infuriating idiot of a character since Jar Jar Binks. His constantly delivered and, may I add, very badly composed (I enjoy a good profanity that would set fire to the cat as much as the next man), swearing made me wish the vampires would tear him to shreds, and I would weep tears of mirth. Were he not showing off his muscles all the time, you could confuse him with a potty-mouthed 5-year old.

Overall, easily the worst of the three. A lost opportunity to have a grand-finale, instead the script smacks of a writer who should be painting 'School' and 'Stop' signs on the roads, and the plot would bore a goldfish. Just pretend its not there, like I pretend that The Phantom Menace doesn't exist. :)
