DVD Description
The series begins with Bill (Belinda Lang) unemployed after losing her job at the bakery. She finds the routine, demands and trivial trauma of domestic life humdrum and confining, and the mysterious biker is also very much on her mind. Husband Ben, despite having a new plumber's mate, ails somewhat and petty arguments develop over, amongst other things, his driving and the neighbour's annoying and flatulent dog.

A new job and an unexpected pregnancy in the household do little to appease her state of mind. Her problems are compounded when Ben's estranged father returns on a flying visit with a young Thai bride.

For friend Rona (Julia Hills) on the other hand, life seems to have taken something of a turn for the better. Re-united with an old flame her relationship blossoms and it is not long before the sound of wedding bells can be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sitcom, 21 Aug 2006
By Anthony Minich "Tony Minich" (Lansdale, PA, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
2 Point 4 Children is a wonderful sitcom. It is an absolute shame that it never made it over to the States. I had the privilege of seeing it on BBC when I was in Germany. I was immediately hooked.

I have purchased a Region Free, PAL/NTSC converter DVD player for the express purpose of watching this show (best 25 pounds/50 dollars I ever spent). Now I have the whole family hooked.

This represents the typical British family (though American families aren't that far removed from the Potters), thus the title 2 Point 4 Children. This group shares a lot of the fun and pains that occur in my family.

While this boxset may not have a lot of extras, it is still worth the price. As of right now, Series 1 - 3 are out (21Aug2006). Hopefully, Series 4 - 9 aren't far behind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bill and Ben..., 26 Nov 2008
By DL Productions UK (Merseyside, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Bill and Ben are back for another series of 2 Point 4 Children, a sit com based on the lives of a family, Bill, a housewife and Ben a central heating repairman. Two kids David who's a little monster and typical 14-year-old Jenny.

This series is quite miserable in many ways, with David getting tetanus and Bill loosing her fantasy man, but otherwise there's some good wholesome comedy here. I especially enjoyed the bit where Ben had a fight with a man on a dual-carriageway and then has to race him in a wheelchair!

The main appeal of the show has to be Belinda Lang's dry wit and her sarcasm. It's funny when Jenny tells her "sarcasm is the lowest form of wit", but she couldn't be further than wrong with Bill, she's funny - the best moment being in the Job Centre where she winds this assistant up no end. If it wasn't for the dry wit, this show wouldn't be that popular.

This series has no extras to speak of except for the christmas special where they go to Bill's mum. Otherwise this is quite a poor fare, but the last series was no better. The main focus is that we're finally getting these episodes on DVD, and the picture and sound quality are not too bad, better than the VHS editions that came out yonks ago.

I would suggest though you buy the 1-3 boxset, as this is rather overpriced for what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 point 4 children, 13 May 2005
By Roxetteboy "roxetteboy" (widnes, cheshire,u.k) - See all my reviews
the second series of this long running sitcom about the porter family sees them pick up where the first series left off.even more funny than the first series and dealing with more serious issues such as bullimia.not surprising that it ran for 9 years judging by this.
