5.0 out of 5 stars "Lock S-Foils in attack position!", 14 Aug 2006
By TK-1308 - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
At last one of the coolest ships from Revenge Of The Sith makes it into Lego form! The predecessor to the Incom Z-95 X-Wing Starfighter, the ARC-170 (Aggressive ReCon) Fighter is designed as both a bomber and fighter craft rolled into one.
Lego have designed the kit to look very much like its on-screen counterpart but in doing so have created a kit that will challenge the under 12s.
The ship is quite fiddly to construct in certain sections and when assembled the primary wings are quite easy to break at the tips, so playability for younger collectors may be affected by this.
The ship boasts three opening cockpits, movable S-Foils which are controlled by a wheel on the back, deployable bombs, wing mounted laser cannons and rear facing rotating gun turret.
The ship comes complete with three Clone Pilot figures and a little red astromech (the R5-D4 model from previous kits) as well.
All in all, a great ship and a must have for any discerning Star Wars collection and if you loved this then take a look at the actual ARC-170 made by Hasbro too.

4.0 out of 5 stars ARC-170 Starfighter is a great set, 16 Jul 2005
By D. Talbot - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This ARC-170 starfighter is part of the opening space battle in Star Wars Episode 3. Piloted by clones it was these ships tasked with protecting Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on their mission to rescue the Chancellor.

I don't think this model is meant for kids. First it is quite delicate which is why I only gave it two stars for Durability. The set contains 400 pieces and it is big once complete (about 12 inches long with a wing span of about 18 inches) and many of the parts may easily fall off (such as the wings) if the model is dropped or handled roughly. Second, I would imagine a kid would find it difficult to build. There is a lot of technic lego involved in making the wings and a kid may need the help of a parent or older sibling during those stages.

Lego has never been cheap and this model is no exception. £30 is a lot to spend on a toy. I actually bought it for display only because it is a very cool model. The set comes with three clone pilots (two with blasters) and an Astromech droid. Seeing the Lego versions of characters you love from Star Wars is always the highlight of Star Wars Lego.

I should note that my set actually came with an important piece missing that prevents the wings from operating properly. I've since written to Lego to ask for a spare part but have yet to recieve a reply. Most sets come 100% complete but there's always the risk of something (usually unimportant) not turning up in a set.

If bought with Anakin's Starfighter (with Vulture Droid) and the hard-to-find Droid Tri-fighter then you have the complete collectio to recreate the opening battle of Episode 3. If you just prefer to have this model as a stand-alone, you'll still love it.

I give this model 4 stars for Fun because at times it was tough to build (particularly when you have a piece missing) and overall it's just not as cool as having some of the better known characters and ships in Lego form. Educational value gets a boost up to 2 stars because it requires some understanding to get around the technics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant, 14 May 2005
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This toy is tricky to build so i think 8 year olds will find it tricky. It has little educational value apart from showing young star wars fans the evolution of the x - wing. But alround one of the better episode 3 sets.

Call me old fashioned but you just can't get a starfighter that looks anywhere near as sexy as an x-wing (with the possible exception of the millennium falcon). Read more
