I've listen to many recordings of piano concerto, Barber's most original work (the greatest piano concerto ever written in our era), but they don't come even close to this incandescent performance by John Browning/Slatkin, in its stature and sheer power of playing. The hauntingly beautiful slow movement (used in the film Platoon), is played with admirable delicacy and deep feeling. This is a great concerto playing on the same level as Gilels or Richter, even though they never played this concerto.
