4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable alt.sexy romp in Dublin, 11 May 2005
By A Customer
No goldfish were harmed during the making of this movie. This is an enjoyable alt.sexy 'Love Actually', with hints of 'Educating Rita' and 'Human Traffic' (without the latter's drugs). Overall, a highly entertaining budget love/passion comedy-drama, without the drama being too PC or laid on heavily with a shovel. It's uniformly well acted, fast-paced, has a great script, and has servicable (but not exactly Woody Allen -level) camera-work and editing. American viewers won't need to worry about understanding the Irish accents - you won't need the sub-titles on. Of course, it lacks the gloss a higher budget movie would have - the eccentric music soundtrack is perhaps the most dodgy element here, presumably so the producers could do a "hits all the bases" soundtrack CD. Why bother; soundtrack CDs never sell well anyway? But perhaps the movie's all the more believable for the lack of gloss - you could bump into these characters around the next corner but can Dublin _really_ be that hot? Maybe only if you're as young and/or attractive as these characters are? 'No ugly folks allowed' in this movie. It's annoying that the bi-girl character gets stereotyped as an 'unreliable flaky heartbreaker', which simply plays to prejudice. Anyway, this DVD is recommended - and those goldfish are surely in line for some 'best pet comedy acting' award.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I would normally watch but......, 25 Jun 2006
By I. R. Kerr (Lancashire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
A funny Irish based version of La Ronde with a series of interwoven tales started by a philandering teacher's use of the Goldfish memory urban myth to start a conversation to get a new conquest.
From hereon in almost everyone is connected to everyone else as relationships develop then crash all around. Let's see anyone try and use any of these chat-up lines from now on.
It's not what I would normally watch but it was enjoyable.
I got it as I liked Flora Montgomery as the feisty burglar in When Brendan Met Trudy so thought I'd give it a try. It sure looks a little out of place in my DVD collection sat between Godzilla (several) and Goodfellas.

3.0 out of 5 stars the myth of lesbian seduction, 2 Dec 2007
By rickwill47 "grumpy old man" (Denton; Manchester.uk) - See all my reviews
the type of seduction in question is part of the myth that any "hetrosexual" female hasn't met the "right woman" yet.
to put it another way ,in this film two young women fall into bed with other women at the drop of a hat?
other than the above this is a watchable rom-com ,i would not normally watch this type of film ,this however is a wet afternoon film ,better than most of it's type.
regards rickwill
