Actually id like to give this game 4 and 1/2 stars if i may be so bold.

You may recognise me as the Northants gamer who gave the latest EA sports NBA Live 2005 such a bashing recently, and i have to say after that disappoinment i was eager to play ESPNs latest offering and more to not be let down again.

I was so excited to start and being new to this franchise i must say i am well and truly converted.

The first thing you can't help but notice is that the game is visually beautiful, the players pretty much identical to their real life counterparts, and though that is of course not the most important thing in a videogame it still helps you get into the action i think. eh? anyway it's beautiful

Next the gameplay is pretty solid, the players move well, the AI is solid and i found in contrast to NBA live that i was actually in control of what my player was doing. simple

If i have one gripe then maybe the defence could do with some tweaking (ie. on offence you have the "isomotion 2" [freestyle in ea but this one is way better] on defence there is no real way to guard it except take a charge?, but its a small bad point in an otherwise good game that captures well the glamour, speed, and finesse of nba basketball)

As we all know if you were to name a basketball game, most people would name NBA Live. They would say that ESPN is wick despite never giving it a chance! So they rush out and buy it. Deep don they are disappointed, however they think that they have to settle for NBA live's average and limited gameplay. Well I for one want to stand up for these people they no longer have to stand for NBA Live, as ESPN is the future of NBA games.
Last year ESPN NBA was a huge success and many more people have decided to give ESPN a chnce, however I don't want any more people to be disappointed with NBA Live.
In the new edition of ESPN there is the same sort of thing as NBA Live's freestyle, however it is called Isomotion2 this is superior to freestyle as if your going for a slam dunk and a defender jumps in your way you are able to change your shot in mid air to avoid the swat ball. This makes the game so much better and funner. It is a GREAT game to play againstyour friends and the new addition of TEAM CHEMISTRY in the franchise mode allows you to talk to your players and a result of this confrontation is TEAM CHEMISTRY levels rising or falling. The higher the TEAM CHEMISTRY the better your TEAM plays together. Another factor of increase or decrease in TEAM CHEMISTRY is the amount of time you do or don't give your players to produce on the court.
Well these are just a few of the new introductions that ESPN NBA 2k5 has to offer, to experience the true magic of this game BUY IT NOW!! Don't LIVE with the DISAPPOINTMENT of NBA LIVE 2005!
