5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, very impressive, 5 Feb 2006
By Hish (Aberdeen, UK) - See all my reviews
espn nhl 2k5 is another entry in this excellent series of games. the wealth of things to do is very impressive. Among loads of other stuff, players have such options as fully customisable rosters to ensure that teams have all the correct players, or an in-depth francise mode that is one of the finest i have seen to date. For the more casual hockey fan there are a fine choice of party games to jump into and mess around with. This balance allows the game to deliver a fun experience for both the hardcore nhl fan (like myself) and the less hockey-minded gamer. The on-ice gameplay is great, with crisp passing (with little cpu aid/interference) and the shooting feels like it is you and not the cpu taking the shots and the control interface is not too fiddley. The goalies can be challenging enough to make you feel a real buzz when you score but are not so hard that they make you cry. Even if you do find something you feel is too hard/easy the most impressive feature of the game is that pretty much all the options and aspects of gameplay are fully adjustable meaning that every game can be tailored to the individual playing it. Oher plus points are the espn presentation and commentry which is very authentic and doesnt suffer from too much repetition. The only sour note would be the slightly bland player models which can look a bit generic at times but otherwide this game is a great all round package.
