all i ever wanted!, 7 Sep 2005
This game completely blows away ace combat 4 and 5. The graphics are excellent, although not quite as good as in the ace combat series. The flight models and avionics are spectaclur and the cockpit graphics are amazing. Where ace combat takes on a more arcade role( having 80+ air-air missiles per sortie without any actual getting to the target area) energy airforce involves you choosing your loadout, making sure you have enough fuel to last you the sortie, taxing to a runway, taking off, getting to waypoints in a time slot, commiting against a target, getting back to your base and landing safely! A complete flight sim on ps2! Dont buy this if you want a light hearted combat flight game. Buy it because it is a complete flight sim.

Energy airforce aim strike, 28 May 2005
Energy Airforce: Aim Strike! sees players take on the role of the pilot and not the plane in a breathtaking air combat simulator developed in conjunction with aerospace industry giant Lockheed-Martin and several air force self defense divisions. An ultra realistic graphics engine guarantees faster, bigger, and better action than it's predecessors, and tasks such as fuelling, boarding and take off are seamlessly combined giving the whole mission the realism of starting from the moment the pilot is ready to take off. With the Lockheed Martin license, players begin the game with the versatile F-16 Fighting Falcon and go on to unlock a substantial hangar of different aircraft. To fly new aircraft, a license must be earned by completing a series of tests in the License mode. Mastering new techniques and utilizing the particular qualities of different aircraft opens up a variety of new options. Energy Airforce: Aim Strike! also includes intelligent wingmen for each mission whose plane can be chosen depending on the kind of assistance the player requires. The player must also command wingmen, directing them according to the circumstances of the mission. Very good game, very fun to play buy its great!!

The best attempt PS2 have at a proper sim fighter game, 12 April 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I played for many hours in my youth a game not too dissimilar to this called F/A 18 Interceptor back in the hay days of Amiga 500s. Since then I have progressed to consoles rather than PCs as have always been put off by the huge array of controls PC sim games tend to have. One such game I was recently reviewing for PC had over 200 keyboard controls! Why? Who has time to mess about with that when a bogie and missile are on your tail!
This game offers all the luxuries you would expect from a PS2 game, no shuddering, no wobbly graphics, fantastic sound and the images look very crisp when in RGB Scart/NTSC mode. Yes, nearly every button on the pad has a task but in a logical design where you need them to be when trying to loose an enemy MIG.
The graphics are fine, lets face it your going to be zooming at about 400-1000 knots passed anything so don't expect much detail. And on the odd occasion (on a nice big widescreen TV) did get a slight vertigo feeling looking down at the ground from the cockpit!
I loved having the ability to choose your weapons for your sorties. There are about 5 different air to surface missiles, about 10 guided and un-guided bombs and four types of air to air missiles.
One of the bonuses of this game (that the above mentioned Amiga game did not but always thought it would have been a good idea) is you even have the assistance of AI wingmen on your side and you can choose what weapons they have too. This is very handy when you are tasked to do a ground assault but know you're gonna run into a serious amount of air resistance. You strap up with the bombs, they carry the missiles and when you get to the air attack you take to the hard deck and they attack the MIGs!!! It's poetry in motion.
There are around 6 planes to play with from the bog standard F16 Falcon through to the advanced F22 Raptor that can carry twice as many missiles and benefits from 'stealth' technology.
If you're the kind of guy or girl that likes a game that is not too fiddly but also a challenge then go for this.
My only two critisms are the A10 Warthog plane is useless, it is too heavy so can't get to any of the targets in time without Air Traffic Control screaming at you. It is also not jet powered so uses a lot of fuel going as fast as it can (about 350 knots is pushing it whereas the top speed of the other jets is around 900-1000 knots). Whilst it is the plane that can carry the most missiles I never managed to engage the enemy without getting shot down as it was quicker for them to get in range before I did.
The last criticism is it could have been longer. Oddly the whole game seems to be set in the middle east however the demo at the beginning of the game shows landscapes with snow capped mountains and another shows small island chains in a tropical environment and I never had one target there. Within the weapon choice you also have the AGM 84L which for the uninitiated is a air to surface torpedo, obviously for hitting enemy naval boats, but alas no such sortie so why bother having it!!!Maybe the designers added so much quality to the physics of flying and dog fighting they ran out of space for the rest, shame. Lets hope the PS3 version is a lot more expansive.
