Bujingai - Review, 7 Jul 2005

What can I say? Overall, this game is relatively average. The storyline is pretty linear, with no particular 'extras' to keep you occupied once you complete the game. Completing the game itself takes no more than a few hours, since there are only 6 levels, each one only slightly more difficult than the last, and the final boss is not too tricky to defeat. Graphically, however, is where Bujingai really shines, it's visuals are some of the best on Playstation 2 yet, they really are awesome. The fighting in particular is one of the best aspects of this game. Though most of the enemies require nothing more than a few fancy-kung-fu sword slashes to defeat, you will occasionally encounter a more experienced baddie, who will approach and essentially 'dual' with you. When you move in to attack, the enemy will put up its sword, and will fight you with the same level of swordcraft as you do! At this point, the camera switches to a different angle, and the two characters begin 'dueling', magical colours stream across the screen and the swords start flying. This is easily my favourite aspect of this game, and although these enemies do not often appear in-game, it's definately worth the wait! Apart from the graphics, and the combat, this game really brings nothing new to the table, the storyline is pretty dull, with a typical 'guy meets girl, girl gets kidnapped by evil bad-guy, good-guy goes to rescue girl' plot, and the game itself is just too short, although there is plenty of replay value and things to unlock, though nothing special. I'd say buy this game if you're into kung-fu and samurai games and movies, or if storyline and plot arent something that bothers you too much.Graphics: 4.5 out of 5 Sound: 4 out of 5 Gameplay: 3 out of 5 Storyline: 2 out of 5 Overall rating: 3 out of 5

See, there's someone else out there it recognises it's greatness. ^_^ I'll be honest, I found out about this game because I'm a fan of Gackt, the Japanese singer who the character Lau was modelled on. But I can assure you that's not the reason I bought the game. Even if I didn't know he had anything to do with it I still probably would have been intrigued by the box cover. So anyway, it's a great action packed game and I completely agree that the combos are utterly amazing. There are some really cool actions in the game like the air glide and the triangle jump and running up and jumping off walls can be useful at times. Lau is able to perform an array of spells and of course there's the amazing hack and slash action you get to unleash on your enemies with a pair of swords. Its unfortunate that it hasn't be advertised enough but if you like action than you should look this game up.

CRIMINALLY OVERLOOKED, 20 Feb 2005
I wouldn't be surprised if noone in this country...or on this planet... or in the universe for that matter has ever heard of this game. However despite that unfortunate circumstance, this game is one that I recommend to all action-genre junkies. The controls are smooth, intuitive and responsive. The sound and graphics are nothing special but nevertheless do enough to put the game up there with the likes of Shinobi. I won't bother with the story-line because it's obvious that the main focus with this title is the game-play - the combos are absolutely f***ing amazing - the bosses are sick! and the martial arts are top notch To sum up, BUJINGAI has suffered due to one main thing - lack of exposure - not enough advertising - and if you're lucky to have caught sight of this review and decide to give this game a go, then you will become one of a few who has experienced the power that is - B U J I N G A I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
