Yoshi's Touch and Go, 21 May 2006

Yoshi's Touch and Go is not really designed to be a traditional platform game, and is more like an old-fashioned arcade game. The aim of the game is to get the highest score, and the main game is basically divided into two stages. In the first stage you must guide baby Mario through the clouds to Yoshi, who is waiting on the ground. The more points you manage to gain in this stage will affect what colour Yoshi is waiting for you, which will then impact on how many points you are able to get in the second stage. In the second stage, you have to guide Yoshi across the terrain to the finish point. It is as simple as that. The twist is that Yoshi (or baby Mario) is controlled exclusively using the stylus. You can draw protective bubbles around enemies to stop them hurting you, and can also draw clouds. If you tap Yoshi, he will jump, and if you hold the stylus down, he will jump higher. If you tap the screen elsewhere, Yoshi will fire an egg. A nice touch is that if you make a mistake drawing a cloud, you can erase it by blowing into the microphone. There is quite a lot of skill involved, and the gameplay is surprisingly deep, although as with any good arcade style game, you can just pick up and play when you want without having to spend hours progressing through the game.
There are several modes, including a marathon, where you are challenged to travel as far as possible without dying, and time attack. There is also a basic multiplayer. That said, the game is essentially quite short, and there is little to keep you interested once you have gained the highest scores.

Yoshi Touch and Go!, which seems like a kind of a spin-off from Yoshi Island (aka Super marioworld 2). Yoshi carries baby Mario, taking down enemies with his eggs. You just use the touch screen to make cloud paths, make Yoshi jump or throw eggs, trap enemies in a bubble. And also the microphone is used for getting rid of the clouds. No D-pad or button (apart from start button) is used.Structured in an old arcade game type, where getting 'High Scores' are the main point of playing the games. There are different modes that you can show off your skills (by getting the highest score, going the longest distance, clearing in the shortest time, etc.) One simple mistake will lead you to the Game Over. The game may sound a bit repetitive and boring, but actually it's not. It's highly addictive, really challenging and fun. Very easy to get the hang of the control but a large amount of time should be invested to master it. Very easy at the beginning(Endless Mode), but becomes incredibly difficult and fast as you progress. Overall, a very well constructed game on a simple creative idea. I have got most of the great DS games, from Meteos, Super Mario Kart, Advance Wars, Kirby, NIntendogs and Tony Hawk. But the one keeps making me come back to play again is definately Yoshi!

I must admit, before i started playing this game, i had a very fixed idea of what i was going to expect-however, it turned out that the game was nothing like i expected, but still enjoyable.There isn't really much of a story to this-just help baby mario get back to the stork. This does indeed sound very childish, but i assure you, that the story is not the focus of this game. Graphically, it is pretty static. It doesn't really show off the full potential of the DS like Mario 64 DS does. But the game is nice and colourful, and there are no real glitches. The environments tend to fairly similar in appearence, but this doesn't spoil the game. The gameplay is what marks this game as "unique." Using the stylus (the touch screen pen) you can draw a line of clouds to walk over (this can be either over pits, or to get you to a higher position to reach an item. It can also be used to slow you down temporarily to pick off enemies before heading back into the action.) You can throw your eggs, like little bullets at the enemies, or into the air to collect items. Finally, by drawing a bubble around an enemie, you can trap him and drag him into you. This makes the game remarkably interactive. This gameplay is set between two real modes. One where you play on the back of Yoshi, and two where you have baby mario falling through the sky. There are some extra features such as a time attack mode, where items give you time, and you see how long you can survive. And another where you have to rescue baby luigi from some witch like creatures. I would definitely say that this game is aimed predominantly at children, but because so much is sometimes required of you, youngsters might get frustrated with it. However, this is still a great game for adults alike, and i would highly recommend to anyone this game.
