Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Freedom Force Vs The Third Reich is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Freedom Force, developed by Irrational Games. Its brilliant mix of strategy, action and superb humour guaranteed 'Game Of The Year' awards across numerous publications during 2002.

The sequel promises to be bigger and better than ever. It begins in the 1960s and tells the story of Freedom Force's mission to thwart a plan hatched by the evil Nuclear Winter. Of course, Freedom Force is victorious but there is a twist... the team never makes it back to its home town to celebrate its success and winds up travelling through time to the 1940s where it must fight the Germans in World War II.

Freedom Force Vs The Third Reich is a fast-paced tactical role-playing game and will be available to play in both single- and multi-player modes. The graphics are radically enhanced by the introduction of a brand new 3D graphics engine (Gamebryo) which has allowed each character to be tweaked to perfection and has given just the right look for each superhero.

The game is characterised by its 1960s comic book style and will feature an abundance of new characters to choose from. Six new heroes will be introduced from the two distinct eras of comic books. From the silver age we meet Tombstone, Green Genie and Quetzacoatl who will step up to help Freedom Force beat Nuclear Winter. And for the first time ever in gaming, players can take a trip to the golden age of comics and meet three news heroes who will be on hand to help: Sky King, Black Jack and Tricolour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun, 24 May 2005

The only way to describe this game is "great fun"!

A fine blend of RPG style character development and storyline and tactical strategy, this game ignores most of todays games obssessions with realism and revels in it's garish colours, corny dialogue and cheesey voice acting! Set in the Silver (and Golden) age of comics, the creators have an obvious love of all aspects of the genre.

The voices are worth special mention - they all really fit with the source material. Without dissing Mentors hilarious dull monotone, I particularly love Sky King's "Jimmy Stewart" and Blackjack's "chirpy Cockney".

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent.....but more please!, 17 Jun 2005

It's been a while since the original Freedom Force was released and this game gives you more of the same but with a World War 2 slant to it. I also had the feeling that it didn't play as long as the original(Even though I stuck with the same characters for most of the missions, I wasn't able to release all of their special powers before I had finished the game(although this was on the easy level)). Some of the new characters were a nice addition.
If you played and enjoyed the original then you'll enjoy this too. If you haven't, see if you can get your hands on the original, it's probably cheaper and has more gameplay hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, *does* work with Vista, 27 Feb 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
In difference to the other poster I can definitely confirm that FFvTR works on Vista 64bit SP1, except for hardware DirectSound for which you'll need Creative's Alchemy software or similar.

Freedom Force vs The Third Reich scores over the original Freedom Force in several areas. The characters arrive fully formed, the graphics, sound and interface are improved and the plotline is more coherent. It's a fantastic team based real time strategy game with endless opportunity for customisation should you so wish.

The only disadvantages are the patchy sound support which does not always work (a FFvTR bug), a couple of crashes and an average difficulty level that's probably lower than the original Freedom Force.

The game is a bit cheesy in parts, but deliberately so in a stereotyped comic fashion, the powers are suitably impressive, with plenty of variety of characters so that your tactics are continually tested. At this low price it's a steal - buy it!

I loved the original game and spotted this cheap the other day, so picked it up.
