Synopsis

Brett Ratner (RUSH HOUR) directed this lighthearted caper starring Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek as lovebird jewel thieves. After snatching a huge diamond out from under the nose of FBI agent Stan (Woody Harrelson), the pair retire to the Bahamas to live happily ever after. Yet after a few months, Max (Brosnan) gets bored and starts longing to get back in the game. His chance comes when a cruise ship carrying a large, lovely diamond pulls into port. Lola (Hayek) gets pretty mad when she finds out her man wants to risk it all once again, especially since Stan is in town, determined to redeem his sullied reputation by catching Max in the act. Don Cheadle is the local crime boss who partners with Jack for the heist, or maybe that's a fake-out move to put the feds off the scent. It hardly matters in the long run, as Max and Stan become fast friends, and no diamond can match the beauty of the film's tropical island locale, or its gorgeous lead actress in various swimwear. One gets the sense the cast really had a good time shooting this, and their good vibrations will undoubtedly rub off on the vacation-deprived viewer. Naomie Harris (28 DAYS LATER) plays a major hottie as a local cop who falls for Stan and agrees to help him take the other couple down. The legendary Lalo Schifrin (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE) conducted the pulse-quickening score.

4.0 out of 5 stars no brainer fun, 8 Oct 2005

An enjoyable easy going film that has some really funny moments. Woody Harrelson and Pierce Brosnan are excellent together. The babes and beaches are great, and if you can forgive the formulaic plot, you'll enjoy it. I think the male leads are looking good, despite some other reviewer's comments. This is no masterpiece, but not a bad rental for a cosy evening. My wife liked it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant!, 24 Jan 2005
By Kemp "N.J.Kemp" (Northampton, Northamptonshire, England) - See all my reviews

Brett Ratner, the director who brought us the action-packed Rush Hour 1 and 2 and the chilling Red Dragon, unleashes a brand new action-packed thriller with a comic twist featuring the talents of the ex-007 Pierce Brosnan, the sexy Salma Hayek and the hilarious Woody Harrelson.

This film is about two diamond bandits who choose to go into retirement after nearly being caught by an FBI agent on their last mission but after a while Max (Brosnan) feels that his thirst for stealing diamonds is still there and opportunity comes knocking on the door when the FBI agent returns (Harrelson) to offer Max the chance to steal the only diamond he didn't get. Thus leaving Max with a dreadful choice, the woman he loves or the diamond he never got?

I feel Ratner always brings out the best in duos, Chan and Tucker, Norton and Fiennes and now Brosnan and Harrelson who were absolutely hilarious.

I would recommend this film for the action junkies and anyone who wants a good laugh and a good night out.

Also in the opening sequence see how many actors or actresses you can see in the crowd in the basketball stadium.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise ! Surprise!, 13 May 2005
A very enjoyable watch. The script is fairly witty and the plot, even though a bit predictable, has a nice twist right at the end.
The performances are good and the comic chemistry between Brosnan and Harrelson is terrific!(Not to mention Salma Hayek's
great curves)The movie reminded me of the great 70's action/comedy films (e.g the scarecrow/mean machine/the gauntlet
and so on.)Anyway a fun night in!
