Proud to be British!, 31 Mar 2005
This film made me so glad to be British!! It would seem that most people, even Brits themselves, totally missed the entire point of this movie. The problem is that to appreciate satire, you have to actually understand the subject on which it is based, and the lack of attention paid in History lessons by most people in this world is made shockingly apparent by the extremely luke-warm response to this film! Yes it's a satire on how Hollywood changes History to suit its films, but there's far more than that. The characters are fantastic, Anthony Sher plays a brilliant Hitler, and all the other famous Nazis, Goebbels, Goering, Eva Brown, are hilariously well observed. Harry Enfield probably steals the show as King George V, but the two American stars have to take credit for playing along with the whole thing. Add a load more British comedy heros and it adds up to a brilliant movie that only a few people will get, but if you're wise enough to get all the jokes then it's well worth it. If not then stick to Pearl Harbour and U-571, that's exactly what happened, honest!

Churchill rocks!, 16 Mar 2005
I saw this at the pictures the weekend it came out and I wasn't disappointed! It's funny, action-packed and completely riduculous! It mocks films like Pearl Harbour and Armageddon by taking the you-know-what out of directors who make films saying the U.S. won WW2 by themselves. With Churchill being an ass-kicking U.S. marine and Patton being a fast-talking black guy, it's not exactly historically accurate, but who cares when it makes a film so funny?! Plenty of silly jokes and japery make this a must-see for people who like their humour with lots of daftness. The brilliant cast features Christian Slater, Neve Campbell, Vic & Bob, Harry Enfield, Leslie Phillips, Rik Mayall, Mackenzie Crook and Miranda Richardson. Comedy gold!

A Ridiculous Film - Exactly As It's Supposed To Be!!!, 2 Dec 2006
I think a lot of the reviewers of this film have completely missed the point. This is a surrealist, bizarre comedy that was in no way meant to be taken literally or to re-write history. I think the film-makers had enough respect for the intelligence of the viewing public to believe that they would take the film for what it was and not misinterpret the intentions of the movie and take offence! I find it insulting that so many reviewers make the point about this film being historically inaccurate and replacing the hero with an American for some other reason other than to take the mickey out of stereotypical American sensitivities whereby they like to believe that they were actually responsible for all the great achievements of history! This film is doing exactly the opposite of what it is these people are objecting to!
Also I haven't checked this out, but I seem to remember when the film came out it was promoted as a British made film, Christian Slater was on Jonathon Ross's show and that's certainly the impression I got. If this is the case then it more than proves my point about the intentions of the movie.
Anyway, all in all it is a hilariously silly film, really daft and unbelievable storyline and outrageously over the top characters - anyone with a sense of humour should be able to suspend their disbelief for 90 minutes and just enjoy it for the glorious farce that it is!
