5.0 out of 5 stars The most erotic film ever, 9 Mar 2006
If you find having your hair washed at the hair-dressers, the way the fingers massage your scalp through the wetness and slippery foam is in any way even only mildly erotic, then this is a film for you. Without ever showing any nudity, this film is super-charged with eros throughout.
The story is of little importance, although it is weird and strange. It's a quiet story of a man who falls in love with a hairdresser and marries her. Together the apparently ill-matched pair (he is a lot older then she is) seem to find fulfilment. Seem...
This is a film like only the French can make them - subtle, slow, emotional and oozing eros all the time.
One of my favourite films, ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most beautiful films ever made, 12 May 2003
An absolute tour-de-force. So delicate yet so powerfull. Very few films hit at the heart the way this one does, 'My life as a dog' comes to mind as a example of the films sometimes comic pathos but the sheer atmosphere, you can almost smell this film at times, is without parallel. Erotic but with it's clothes still on, subtitled but 5 minutes into this film and you've forgotten, this is what cinema was made for, this is what art was made for, and in the final dance then silence, well - this is life.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect erotic melancholy, 7 Jul 2003
By A Customer
After the darkness of Monsier Hire, France's best film-maker, Patrice Leconte created the Hairdresser's husband.

Leconte's skill is in drawing the viewer into odd worlds that float close to our own. Places that don't possess the prosaic momotony of real life, but are never so hyperreal as to be unconvincing. In this film he achieves a tone of obsession, but it is never sinister.

Shooting in muted reds and colours that remind me of old photographs, he weaves the tale of a boy fixated by the erotic awakening of visiting the hairdresser at age 12. The boy grows up and manages to live out his obsession.

Michael Nymans music blends perfectly with the story and visuals to create a film that beats most 'french' movies in terms of genuine erotic charge.

See this film with someone you can't keep your hands off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great film but poor DVD
