Synopsis

A group of animals - a horse, cat, sparrow, monkey, rat and a dog - have all been given the power of speech and rational thought. They live in a luxurious "club class" wing of a secret vivisection laboratory. Pampered and clothed unlike any lab animals in history, fed vintage wine and exquisite food, they are blissfully unaware of the real world outside. Until one cruel night when they are brutally liberated into their so-called natural surroundings by a gang of animal rights activists.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Write Me Own Review, 24 Feb 2005
Strangely overlooked by the plaudit-awarding tele-pundits in 2004's comedy renaissance year (Little Britain, Nighty Night, Peep Show, Keith Barrett, Mighty Boosh et al) yet deserved of every superlative going, "I Am Not An Animal" was a ridiculously hilarious show every bit as funny as it is bizarre.

The plot, such as it is, concerns pretentious talking animals and their labatory-free existence. That's pretty much all you need know to enjoy the wonderful exchanges and characterisation to be expected from more 'regular' sitcoms.

Brought to you from the pen of Peter Baynham and Steve Coogan's Baby Cow Production company who -"Cows" excepted- can do no wrong and featuring the voice talents of Spaced's Simon Pegg, Julia Davis and Coogan himself, this is a comedy like no other and all the btter for it.

What makes you laugh? A right wing sparrow with penchant for writing pop songs? After seeing this, the title "Ray Mears Extreme Survival" will always bring a smile to your face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just amazing!, 7 Nov 2006

When I ask my friends if they ever saw this on television, they look at me with a strange glazed stare when I try to describe it!! I love all of it especially when the wanton Clare gives birth and Colin suggests putting them back in with a spoon. 'Get off my lah lahs!' is a well used phrase in my household!!!
Well I know what some of my friends will find in their Christmas stockings this year, strange looks indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Actually worth about 500 stars, 24 April 2005
By E. Park (UK) - See all my reviews

I only managed to see one episode of this show the first time it ran on terrestrial, however I still bought the dvd the day it went on sale. This show is absolutely hilarious and even thinking of some of the quotes makes me laugh. I would advise anyone with any kind of sense of humour to watch it.
The only thing I would say is that the first episode isn't hugely funny; if I'd only seen that one I wouldn't have been inclined to watch anymore. The best episode is number 5 simply because of Mark the sparrow's hilarious storyline and the quote "i am the manbird of alcatraz." Absolutely brilliant.
