Amazon.co.uk Review
What's interesting about this video is also what makes it seem amateurish at first: it is neither endorsed nor authorised by 20th Century Fox or Lucasfilm. The result: a montage of interviews with everybody of importance to the Star Wars world--from George Lucas and Liam Neeson to Samuel L. Jackson and Harrison Ford, with intelligently written voice-over narration, and a unique exploration of Star Wars and Star Trek together. This is at once an homage to the Star Wars trilogies and a documentary of its sci-fi precursors, from silent film to Star Trek.

Since this collection of interviews isn't authorised by Lucasfilm, you won't find footage of the Star Wars movies here, although you will find terrific snippets from sci-fi milestones such as Fritz Lang's Metropolis. A youthful Carrie Fisher talk about the interplanetary appeal of the original Star Wars, while a 20-years-older Fischer talks about the films' fairytale-like grasp across generations. Young and older Harrison Fords and Mark Hamill give interesting perspectives as well; the video also sports one of the longer interviews recorded with the man inside C-3PO.

Besides the actual cast and crew of the Star Wars movies, including The Phantom Menace, there are interviews here with stars as fans, famous people who love the movies as much as anyone: Sharon Stone, Gary Busey, Hugh Hefner, Magic Johnson, Christina Ricci and William Shatner. A fun and provocative look through uncensored interviews across the spectrum at all that is Star Wars, worthy of any fan's archive, this is a must for any serious collection. --Erik Macki

5.0 out of 5 stars In a Galaxy far, far way........, 28 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars [VHS] [1977] (VHS Tape)
Of those of you that were born in the early 70's this was the film that broke the mold and that all other science fiction films were measured against. Imigary that amazed and seemed to defy all logic kept audiences on the edges of their seats and asking questions for months after the initial release.
Our story starts with 2 droids caught on a space cruiser under attack from The Empire....to try and explain the whole film in just a few short words would simply be impossible as the background that is required to give the film it's full justice would simply take too long.
In short the film is adventure, excitement, anticipation and humour. Superficially directed towards the younger audiences the film has several levels that appeal to all generations and in true fictional mastery the older one got the more one could take from the film.
The characters are as diverse and strange as the planets they derive from. Centrally we have 8 protagonists; 7 heros and one evil oppressor. Through these players we find all manner of expressions of personality from the head strong, the chancer, the dreamer and the destroyer.
Choice of casting was simply devine and whilst certain question marks were left over the appointment of one or two members these were soon dispelled after viewing the subsequent films. Harrison Ford, a somewhat unknown actor at the time, delivers the kind of performance that makes you feel the character was written with him in mind and with Alec Guinness as the ever mindful Obi-Wan Kenobi the film is given futher weight and validation.
To see it is to understand the significance of it's own hype and the reason why so much was not only made of the film then but still continues to do so today. The only reason the prequels continue to be made and received today is as the result of the groundbreaking work and the eventual masterpeice that emerged some 25 years ago.
The youth of today may scoff at the special effects but you can not help to be captivated by a story that will hold in time, a visual feast that is so absorbing and charaters that live in the memory of everyone for generations to come.
If you are looking for colour, imagination, a fast and intreguing story, good acting and even better charaters then this is a must for your collection.
Consistantly voted in the top ten greatest films of all time, how can so many generations be wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Hope, 2 Dec 2003
By Fraser (Renfrewshire, Scotland) - See all my reviews
George Lucas's epic space adventure is still something special even after 26 years. I would rate this as one of the greatest films of all time even after so long. This movie has amazing action scenes and is driven along by a very stong storyline. This film has very good actors including Alec Guiness and Mark Hamill. This is an essential edition to your video collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars A misleading title., 9 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This is a good value video which does include interviews with the stars, though that only makes up about 10% of the content. Based on the title I had expected much more actual 'star' interviews. It focusses moreso on the influences behind Star Wars and compares it to other movies and franchises. I would have liked to have seen more of the early interviews with Mark, Carrie & Harrison in particular, and possibly even some screen tests. Still, a good rounded approach to the legend that it is Star Wars with both the classic trilogy and the Phantom Menace covered.
