One look is all it takes to marvel at the 5.0 million pixel Olympus µ[mju:] DIGITAL 500. Not just because of its undeniably stylish design with new retracting lens barrier and choice of silver and navy blue colours, but also due to its extra-large Hyper Crystal LCD monitor. At 6.4cm / 2.5 inches it provides clear, generously sized images and allows viewing from angles as wide as 160°. A precision 3x optical zoom lens (f3.1-5.2) and TruePic TURBO ensure results come up a real treat.

Users are now also assisted via 20 scene programmes covering the whole range of shooting situations ranging from portraits through to night-time exposures, to even photographing under water. The metal-bodied, weather-proof* µ[mju:] DIGITAL 500 is PictBridge compatible for printing ease, enables videos to be recorded with sound and provides a Super Macro mode for close up work. With the µ[mju:] DIGITAL 500, users can count on great results no matter if printed out, displayed on a TV or computer screen or shown on the integrated, extra-large 6.4cm / 2.5 inch LCD monitor. The LCD uses Hyper Crystal technology where the liquid crystal molecules are laid out in a radial pattern, allowing 160° viewing angles from all directions and under virtually any lighting conditions.

    The olympus mju 500 is a great camera it comes with a huge hypercrystal screen on the back which makes previewing your pictures a breeze as it shows very clearly what your picture will look like. The sensor allows you to enlarge your pictures up to a4 size without blurring. The scene modes on the camera allow an easy way to make distinct changes to your pictures with scene modes such as fireworks, cusine, documents, snow, sports. The camera has a decent flash and a stylish shell. If you want an intermediate camera that will produce great results then go for this but if youre after a slightly more advanced camera go for the olympus mju 800

    This is my second digital camera, my first one having been stolen. The basic shooting mode is incredibly straightforward and intuitive. It is ready to use almost instantaneously after switching on and focus is fast. The display is large and very bright. In spite of the manufacturer's claims it is not that easy to see in direct sunshine, but is certainly just about usable. It is a pity that no optical viewfinder was included, but I am now getting used to life without one.

    There is a large range of pre-set photo options, including one for shooting through glass. As a result I have not yet explored the manual settings. Battery life seems good.

    Overall, I'd say that this is a great camera for the price and I'd recommend anyone who doesn't want to get too serious, but still wants quality, to think about it.
