Product Description

Album Description
Ed Alleyne Johnson is the incredibly talented violin player who appeared in session on the Johnnie Walker Show on Radio 2. His work on Echoes brings a new slant to the traditional sounds of the violin, as it did on previous albums, which include the incredible Purple Electric Violin Concerto Vol 1 and Vol 2 , the classic Ultraviolet and Fly Before Dawn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hurrah for Ed, 4 May 2005
By A Customer
My well-worn copy of Purple Electric Violin Concerto will be staying on the shelves for a while. I love this new album, especially the first track "Clocks", and the cover of "Mad World" on the 2nd CD (although I must also admit that the original is still the best). I'm not so keen on the Kylie cover, but there are some real gems on here. I can understand the previous reviewer's objection to the similarity of the background rhythms, but the covers are so interesting and wonderful that I think the background gives the album a cohesion and continuity. In summary, I highly recommend this album - however, Purple Electric Violin Concerto will always be number one for me (I listen to it in the bath). Cheers Ed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tubular Bells in 2005?, 28 April 2005
I had never heard of this person until last week when Johnny Walker had him on his afternoon show. There was a long interview and he played 3 or 4 live tracks in the studio. He is a very articulate musician and quite self-effacing (ignore what he looks like on the album cover) who is a Oxford graduate in Fine Arts and started playing the violun then. He has done a lot of busking across the world and has released 2 or 3 albums. He plays alone with no backing musicians or overdubs, he says the album tracks are recorded in one take. The technique is that he uses the electric violin to play the melody line? which is sampled and he has some 50 foot pedals and switched to introduce music effects. Difficult to explain until you listen and must be fascinating to watch. The 33 tracks on this double CD are all well known songs from the last 30 years up to the present day (no vocals tho') like Lucy in the Sky, Stir it up, Clocks, Layla, Fields of Gold, Follow you follow me etc. His treatment of these songs is unique and I think my analogy with the Tubular Bells album 30 years ago is a good analogy. I have played this double album about 4 times since it arrived last week and it is still fresh. It's best enjoyed when you are sitting relaxing after a tough day (or maybe stuck in a jam?). Cannot recommend it higher!

Interestingly he said that he could not find a label to put this out so he did it himself and that he has no manager. Good luck to him: maybe he will keep all the profits as this album seems to be flying off the Amazon shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars infectious viewing, 4 Sep 2005
By A Customer
I enjoy EAJ's performances every weekend, a fascinating spectacle. The sounds he produces never fail to captivate a huge audience. If you're ever visiting Chester of a weekend you'll get the chance to watch and listen to EAJ busking; fortunately I live almost within earshot.
