Best PS2 game in a long time., 11 Nov 2005
Any Ghost in the shell fan knows that nothing liscenced under this name is going to dissapoint. We all know and trust it for what it is. Shear brilliance. The game it's self is perfectly authentic with every detail up to the characters moody or athletic animation up to scratch. You play as Major or Batu usualy symultaniously, conquering each mission, (there are quite alot), set for the character. the Major is fast and athletic, and can bounce off walls and slow mo dodge bullets and kick the whatever you want to kick out of the enemy, whilst still keeping her titanium body beleivable by details like making very loud noises and puffs of smoke when you jump from a high building. Batu is powerful and slow, matching his usually indoor fighting missions perfectly, with a nice contrast to the two characters, it is almost like a new game every mission. The model graphics are beautiful and it looks like most of the poly's have gone into the hair, but this really does make up for the sometimes box looking scenario, but this is only at times when perhaps the level is large or cyber/indoors. There is not an EXTENSIVE array of weapons although each weapon is easily recognised as different to the next, so it keeps it active. The gameplay is endless, im not too sure why but it just feels so genuine, its a thrill to be playing one of the best loved anime series of all time. It lives up to the name completley. One small annoying thing is that the speech is in English, so the Tachikomas sound ANNOYING and not cute and Japanese, but that does'nt really matter, im sure alot of you watch the series in English anyway. Also another point to note is, this game can be played in WIDESCREEN (16:9) so its a good next gen ps2 game to pick up wether you are or are not a fan. GOOD BUY, hours of fun. GET IT NOW.

Fiddly jumping does not a good level make, 2 Oct 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
At first glance this title promises all the coolness of the series, but, then you have to train in order to play this Japanese-controll-configured mess. This was daunting at first but then, when you get past the annoying (fiddly)controlls, this game slips into the feel of the SAC series and becomes cool, it becomes easier to controll, the ambiance rocks and being able to cyber brain hack Rocks Hard (snipers beware)! This glee continues untill you reach the Dam Complex (Autonomous Region) where the drooling idiot of a level designer (or the director) thought it would be fun to base an entire level on the fiddly Jumping-on-the-walls controlls. This level is embolism enducing. This was where I seriously considdered breaking my controll or the DVD, SERIOUSLY! If you are reading this review YOU MOTHERLESS LEVEL DESIGNER!! take note. Don't base levels on gimmicks (Yes the wall jumping is a gimmick!!) This tarnishes an otherwise enjoyable game.
Other than the last bit of ranting, this game was oodles of fun.

Disappointing, 6 Jan 2006
This was such a disappointment. This game could have really been something. The graphics are very same same, levels are poorly designed and poorly laid out. Movement does not connect with floor all too good. There is not a lot to do or interact with. The computer AI seems blind. Compared with much older games such as Deus Ex with a complexity of things to do and newer games such as GTA which show the power of the PS2 this should have been better. If you're a die hard Ghost in the Shell fan the story and characters are ok but you'll be left wondering what you spent the money on.
