2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Sound, 22 Jan 2009
By Gortonandy (Manchester UK) - See all my reviews
The main reason for buying this disc is a) It's a Super Audio CD Stereo Hybrid so you get good sound and b) It's cheap.
The performance is very gutsy and exciting but there are too many places where Rubinstein fumbles his notes for my liking. The great one was never know for his 'accuracy' but always gave a good show. The trouble is that any imperfections are all too obvious with the high resolution sound (and the recording itself is exceptionally good despite its age).
This disc is a bit like seeing your favourtie celebs' wrinkles on High Definition TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime & Noble Performance!, 22 Nov 2008

It is good to have Rubinstein's dazzling performance of Brahms first concerto on SACD. The sound quality is very natural and has incredible presence. Why can't today's technology do better than 50s' stereo recording?
