3.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a rushed job???, 4 Mar 2005

Although I love Capcom games (2d fighters in particluar), I can't help feeling a little empty when playing Capcom Fighting Jam. For a start, the roster of characters is a) a little small, and b) a very odd/poor mix.

The 'boss' character is one of those 'quick & easy' types, i.e. get a generic character model and cover him in flames. Very poor!

Also, there is no option to change between the fighting styles like Capcom Vs Snk. If you want a Darkstalkers power gauage, you have to be a Darkstalkers character.

Little things, like there being no command list on the pause menu, or the lack of game modes (3 - Arcade, Vs & Training) all add up to make me think this game was more an afterthought than a fully-developed title.

On the plus, Capcom have finally given us a proper conversion, so even 50hz Tv's will get a full screen, optimised version. Bless you.

If you love Street Fighter, Darkstalkers etc.. & are a Capcom fanatic then you can pick this game up relatively cheaply, but if you're looking for some quality 2D action then get Capcom Vs Snk or Gulity Gear 2X as these are far more comprehensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars lets jam, 20 Jul 2005

When I first started playing this game. I felt ripped off.

The reason for this was that it only had 4 characters from each game!. Also there isnt that many levels, and the boss character was quite easy with Ryu.

The animation for this game looks beautiful, never looked so good, very smooth and the characters from the other games darkstalkers and red earth look great. Also the backgrounds jungle, new york, japan, ruins, temple and so on, are well done and feature some characters not present, cheering and working out in the background.

The music is brilliant, it just feels right and doesnt have any annoying tracks at all.

Everytime you complete the game you get the ending for which ever two characters beat the last boss with. Considering I always play as ryu I got to complete the game 33 times.

What you get is an excellent comic book style ending for both characters and the original soundtracks for the characters which you can listen to in the music player.

Overall I think this game is a bit too easy/just right, but considering the different characters that have been mixed together, the game feels really balanced, and it has a jamming feel to it as you dont have to get too involved to reach the game over screen.

I hated tekken 5, and Ill use that as an example of a badly put together game art wise, as it has some awful levels in it and ugly special effects.

Its a shame it isnt harder though. I would recommend Capcom vs SNK over this game because its alot harder and has more to it and more options. But if you have that already and like 2d more Id recomend this game over tekken 5. The more I play it the more I like it!.

2.0 out of 5 stars Time to move on?, 4 Mar 2005
By Grant (Maidstone, UK) - See all my reviews
Another year another capcom 2D fighting game. Having been disappointed with Capcom vs SNK 2 I rented Capcom Jam rather than buy it and am sad to say little has changed.

The introduction of team fighting and some new characters creates a degree of interest but ultimately the arcade format is little changed and the training mode is sorely limited by the few moves available to each character.

Capcom Jam is at its best when used for a bit of 2 player nostalgia but ultimately can't compare to the 3D competition.

Perhaps it's time Capcom let the Street Fighter franchise die or spend some time transforming it into a viable 3D contender.
This would have been a good game 5 years ago but now looks and feels dated hence the poor rating.
