Product Description

Product Description

Marilyn Manson, the modern day Alice Cooper and self-proclaimed Antichrist Superstar has managed to do what many couldn't - define the sound of a generation ! With his crusade for free speech : penchant for extreme make-up, clothes and spectacularly obscene shows, this icon of shock rock has broken all the rules whilst maintaining a devout following. For the first time this DVD documentary charts his early career with the Spooky Kids, his progression through various line-up changes. It explains how one man managed to become the soundtrack for jilted youth worldwide, going from strength to strength with every new album. "Marilyn Manson : Fear of a Satanic Planet" tells the full story of a legend, revealing how a boy named Brian from small town Ohio broke the mould for Alternative Metal and managed to gain worldwide critical acclaim in the process.

Being a long-time fan of the Reverand Manson, I found this documentary DVD to be extremely interesting and enlightening despite the fact that it was not authorised by Marilyn Manson, his manager or his label- a fact that did concern me when it arrived.
Despite this, the DVD offers a wealth of information about the man who was to become one of the most feared and revered rock stars of modern times and tracks the whole course of his career from a frustrated Florida rock journalist to the scourge of right wing and parent groups worldwide.
There are a number of interviews to be found on the DVD namely with members of the original Marilyn Manson And The Spooky Kids, Manson biographer Gavin Baddeley and the head of the Church of Satan, the Reverand Stephen Johnson Layba. Combined with a concise and interesting narrative, these interviews cast a great deal of light over the Marilyn Manson phenomena dispelling many of the ridiculous myths that have arisen surrounding the man and his music.
There are also a small number of both visual and audio interviews with Marilyn Manson himself in which he speaks of his art, the reaction to it and why he feels it is important in contemporary society.
So, all in all, unauthorised as it may be, Marilyn Manson- Fear Of A Satanic Planet is an excellent DVD and a superb purchase for any fan of Marilyn Manson or anyone just needing a good DVD. It is a fascinating and informative account of how little Brian Warner from backwater Ohio became the spokesman for disgruntled and "disposable" youth worldwide.
5 Stars indeed.

I was expecting some live concert footage. There wasn't any.
Instead just stills and interviews.

HASH(0x7c6c8e64) out of 5 stars This Documentary Had Nothing Of Any Use About Marilyn Manson To Offer 6 April 2006
By Michael Wais, Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
This documentary had nothing new or interesting of use even to a newfound Manson fan. Really these guys who made the music doc should have gotten more interested in their subject or not even made it. To say this film is unauthorized or even thorough is letting it off the hook.

The sound and video was alright on the DVD even though the editing could've been better. The interludes to the different sections of the movie were okay at least. Video was a 4:3 ratio on the DVD and it wasn't region-coded. It was mixed okay in stereo sound so all of those parts are worth mentioning. However, interviews were directed poorly and without leading as much enthusiasm or controversy as there should have been. The soundtrack music by W!ck was awful and over the top. The producers never even glossed over the local scene that influenced the beginning of Marilyn Manson in Florida.

Interviews were directed poorly and without leading as much enthusiasm or controversy as there should have been. No one had anything new to say or exciting to say about the band. It was closer to an infomercial than a documentary. Much better interviews could have been used. Especially one's that were commonly on networks that were at least somewhat interesting and enlightenning. Why didn't they use interview footage from "Bowling for Columbine" when they used a still from it? The editor could have cut all the garbage with the fanboy. He was annoying and didn't say anything that was worth hearing about Marilyn Manson.

It's a shame the discography and videography sections of the DVD are so good. Couldn't the filmmakers have been as interested in what was behind the music of Marilyn Manson?

A really great documentary on Marilyn Manson is "Demystifying the Devil". The researcher should've taken sources from that movie.

HASH(0x7c6c8eb8) out of 5 stars this dvd is the same as "Sympathy for the Devil" 15 July 2007
By Mr Satan Jesus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
The same company selling this dvd, has just re-released it with a newer picture on the cover as "sympathy for the devil" in an attempt to sell the same thing again to fans. its a weak documentary in the first place, and the fact that the company is trying to rip-off fans by re-naming this is further proof of their intentions.
neither dvd is worth it, and Amazon should note on each page these 2 dvds are exactly the same or they will be dealing with alot of returns.

HASH(0x7c6ca30c) out of 5 stars Awful - No Marilyn Manson Music! 8 Nov. 2013
By Stephen Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Verified Purchase
This was awful - the second the movie starts the screen says "this film contains no music or original interviews with Marilyn Manson."

That's right, a documentary about MM that doesn't have a single MM song. All the music was done by some mainstream sounding metal band I've never heard of.

The film is a mess - it's a collection of found news clips and interviews with ex-members who were kicked out of the band.

You'd get more out of reading the Wikipedia page on MM and watching a few videos on YouTube.

I wish I could get my $2 back so I could spend it on gumballs.

I want to hear from Marilyn Manson, not everyone who knows him. I could not make it all the way through it.

HASH(0x7c6ca7bc) out of 5 stars Dont waste your money on a shifty documentary 22 July 2014
By Myla Wilde - Published on Amazon.com
I agree with the customers who wrote reviews for purchasing this. As a Marilyn Manson fan, this documentary could have been done better than how it was done. It sucked.
