Perhaps Ernesto Nazareth's piano miniatures are a bit repetitive, but who minds repeating joyous infectious delight?

These little pieces by Brazilian composer/pianist Nazareth are so sunny and full of fun that, as the pianist here, Iara Behs says, it's impossible to hear them and not smile. (How sad that Nazareth's life was so much less sunny and happy than his music).

If you know and like the music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk (now achieving his rightful place in the musical, canon) and Scott Joplin, then you will most certainly enjoy the music of Nazareth.

There is little to criticise in this CD: the selection of pieces is fairly comprehensive, the piano is very good and the playing direct, stylish, crisp and articulated. And at Naxos's usual bargain price, you have no excuse not to try the music of Nazareth!
