give the lady her due, 18 April 2005
Music snobs tend to deride anything connected with "American Idol", but Clarkson is one Idol winner that may prove them all wrong, and if this CD is an indication, she will rise above the apparently restrictive contracts and what is known as "cheesy aura" of the show; all things considered, this CD is a fine effort, and I thoroughly enjoyed the many times I listened to this album in order to give it a fair review, and to its credit, it did not stale, but became better with each hearing. Kelly has a pleasing smokiness to her voice, and a very appealing vibrato; the overall quality of the material is good, and Kelly co-wrote 6 of the 12 tracks (# 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 11). "Addicted" is a favorite, with its slight echo of the Bond film song "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage, and "Beautiful Disaster", appreciated for the simplicity of its solo piano accompaniment. Produced by Clive Davis, my preference would be for less; Kelly's voice doesn't need the distraction of over-production like many of her contemporaries do, and she would shine more with pared down arrangements, as the live concert track of "Beautiful Disaster" proves. This CD is a solid performance from a singer that I believe will grow and be with us for many years to come, with an expanding audience and credibility, even among the music snobs. The sound is excellent and total playing time is 44'47.

Now That's What I Call Idol!, 20 Dec 2004
This is the best album to come out of the American Idol show in recent history. Conspicuously short of filler material, every song sounds like airplay material. "Breakaway" launches the album with a mighty kick and it never stops going from there, the grand finale "Beautiful Disaster" being anything but a disaster. It's not hard to detect a little influence of Avril Lavigne on "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes", and there's also a bit of Amy Lee, especially on "Addicted" and "Hear me" thrown in, but this impressive follow-up pushes Clarkson into the running for the best female pop album of the year. Highly recommended for pop/rock fans. Amanda Richards

Amazing, 23 Feb 2005
By A Customer
This album is purely amazing. Those of you who have heard the first album will be pleasantly by a new, more mature sound. Unlike Thankful, this album is a lot more 'together', with a pop-rock feel running throughout from track 1-11 (track 12 is beautiful disaster live, originally from the first album, although this version is much more beautiful). As usual Kelly delivers strong vocals throughout, singing both powerfully and softly, but stunning none-the-less. There's a few ballads, including Beautiful Disaster there's 3 true ballads - Where Is Your Heart and Because Of You being the others. Where Is Your Heart is a less favourite but good anyway. Because Of You is just amazing. Everyone can relate to this song, it's emotional, beautiful and by far one of the best songs by Kelly. Onto upbeat songs, if you've heard Breakaway (written by Avril) and Since U Been Gone you'll more than likely love the album, since Gone and Behind These Hazel Eyes have a pretty similar vibe to them. Hear Me is a powerful song, slightly ballady but gets rockier later in. Same with Addicted, ballady to start with but rockier later. And finally you've got walkaway and I Hate Myself....Both great upbeat songs. This album goes down as one of my favourites, not just of this year but of all time. Kelly really shines here, not only with her vocals but with her writing, having written half the songs. This album is definitely one to try even if, esp. if you didn't like her first one - This is such a different sound! 10/10.
