Product Description
A SPECTACULAR SCOTTISH SUMMER EVENING CONCERT IN PRINCES STREET GARDENS BENEATH EDINBURGH CASTLE, WITH FESTIVAL FIREWORKS ON VIDEO Two of the most awesome sounds in Scottish music come together on this video to provide the listener with a thrilling new musical experience. The traditional but gigantic sound of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra is here, but also the Orchestra combine with the power of Caledon, three of Scotland's finest tenors, to deliver a set of 'power ballads' that will shake you to your core. This open air concert was filmed at the Ross Theatre under the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The style ranges from the soft and gentle to the overwhelming; from the traditional to the modern; music that will appeal, because of the arrangements, to both young and old. Sit back and be prepared for a unique experience. :: TRACKS :: 1. CEUD MILE FAILTE (A HUNDRED THOUSAND WELCOMES) FAVOURITE HIGHLAND SCHOTTISCHES 2. HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL 3. 5.0 out of 5 stars An auld lang syne that will not be forgot., 6 Oct 2007
By John Austin "austinjr@bigpond.net.au" (Kangaroo Ground, Australia) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
As the evening advances and a floodlit Edinburgh Castle looms above, the foot-tapping audience joins hands for "Auld Lang Syne". Fireworks and cheering erupt. There is no doubt that everyone involved has had a good time. This is one `auld lang syne' that will not `be forgot'.

Involved is the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, joyfully wending its way through some of the vast repertoire of Scottish jigs, reels and schottisches. The stirring and beautiful vocal work is provided by Caledon, three of Scotland's finest tenors.

Having Scottish ancestors myself, I was at first prepared to believe that this splendid DVD wouldn't get many people's genes tingling the way it got mine. Not so! It was an Indonesian-born Chinese gentleman who bought and lent me the DVD and prompted me to recommend it unreservedly to everyone of every age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful - how can anyone negate this?, 18 Nov 2007
By chipnpin (Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
unless you are bored with nothing better to do than negate all my reviews one after the other on several pages across several others above and below you, in the good old league, heh, Chippy?
Negatives don't count, you know - so it is a waste of time - but - you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful DVD, 27 Dec 2004
What a wonderful DVD ! The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra have rarely sounded more powerful and the new arrangements of great Scots songs make one realise how exceptional these traditional songs really are. The trio of tenors sing with tremendous passion and gusto and make a splendid job of both the grandiose numbers like A Man's a Man and the more intimate ballads - the beautiful Loch Lomond is so very touching. Coupled with great shots of the fireworks above the floodlit Edinburgh Castle, this recording will have those expatriate Scots in Australia and North America reaching for the Kleenex : a great evening's entertainment.
