I thought it would have been pretty hard to follow up on the excellent "friends of mine"... but Adam Green does it again with Gemstones with his trademark of catchy songs and outrageously funny think- twice lyrics.
No more strings arrangements which were on every track of Friends of Mine.. I thought as well it would have been bad news again, but the Gnomes ( the band ) are great; I love the sound of the Wulitzer organ, the music which I find slightly more upbeat definitely compliments his great deep voice.
Definitely (one of) the best songwriter at the momment; the kind of love it or loathe it.. since I read so many different reviews.
So that cannot be a bad thing in today's bland world.

as one half of the moldy peaches, adam green is often associated with their lo-fi, infantile 'anti-folk'. don't be put off, he has, over the last couple of years, become the best songwriter in the world. gone are the string arrangements from the brilliant 'friends of mine', replaced instead by groovy organ sounds. what remains is the fact that the 15 songs here are, without exception, superb. most of them are around 2 minutes long, so it's hard to get tired of them. the lyrics are very very funny and just a little bit strange, and adams voice is quite impressive. it's hard to pick a favourite, but 'gemstones', 'bible club' and 'who's your boyfriend' are especially good. this is classic songwriting with beautiful melodies and a hint of silliness, and i cannot praise it enough.

Adam green is a legend, so the album was always gonna be good.
When i got it i was wondering how this album was gonna have songs better than no legs and bluebirds, but once i saw there was a track called choke on a cock, i knew adam had come up with the goods.
