Product Description

Album Description
One of the best albums in the history of heavy metal just got better. On Still Hungry, the Long Island quintet has re-recorded the entire 1984 classic Stay Hungry album that included their two biggest hits, "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." But they also re-did four classic nuggets from the late 70s and early 80s when they were the kings of the New York area bar circuit: "Come Back," with its pounding rhythm section; "Plastic Money," an ode to credit card debt; "You Know I Cry" with its twin guitar attack, and "Rock 'N' Roll Saviours!," which used to be their signature tune in the disco days.

Also included are two 1984 outtakes that weren't finished until 2001, "Blastin' Fast And Loud" and "Never Say Never" that alone are worth the price of the disc, even though they previously appeared on "Club Daze" CD, and the band's 1998 reunion single, "Heroes Are Hard To Find." The new songs are only half the appeal: the sound quality is so much better on this remake, with meatier bass, more bashing drums and sharper guitars than the poppy 1984 version that was aimed at MTV and commercial radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heavy Metal classic all over again!, 16 Nov 2004
By U Dick "heavy-duty" (Stevenston, Ayrshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Twenty years ago I got "Stay hungry" by Twisted Sister. It was a great album, guaranteed to annoy your Dad and is some thing of a lost classic. Indeed, it was an LP that I hadn`t listened to in a long time, until I heard that Twisted Sister had reformed to re-record the entire thing. At first I thought the idea was a bit silly and that they should get their finger out and record some new songs. However, the more I thought about it, the more I could see the potential. The production on the original is a bit dated and far removed from their raw sounding and equally classic debut "Under the blade". Besides, my original vinyl copy needed replaced (as did my copy of "Under the blade").

The tracklisting comprises the same ten songs, faithfully redone with only slight adjustments (the occasional extended guitar break, different vocal phrasing by Dee Snider and the odd change in backing vocals), and also seven excellent bonus tracks which genuinely enhance the album, from the surprisingly heavy "You know I cry" to the wonderfully anthemic "Heroes are hard to find". And while old favourites "I wanna rock" and "We`re not gonna take it" may have lost some of their pop/rock sheen in favour of heaviness, harder edged material like "Burn in hell" and "S.M.F." rock out big time and "Horrorteria", particularly the "Captain Howdy" section, is even more creepy than it was before.

So is this a travesty or a triumph? I have to admit that it is far better than I thought it would ever be. I had a problem with Ozzy Osbourne redoing some of his early albums but he never used his original band and it was more about settling scores with ex band mates than enhancing the music. Here Twisted Sister have regrouped with a common purpose and have outdone themselves. It was a bold decision to tamper with one of the three albums that their fanbase hold dearest and one that could have been viewed as cynical. However, if you`re thinking of replacing your old LP then get this, then you`ll have both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Hungry Vs. Still Hungry, 15 Dec 2008
Twisted Sister was my very teen idol and I still listen to their 5 studio albums with great enjoyment. 1982's Under The Blade, 1983's You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll, 1984's Stay Hungry, 1985's Come Out And Play and 1987's Love Is For Suckers. I wanna give more than 5 stars to all these albums equally.

After a decade or so STILL HUNGRY came out in 2004. STAY HUNGRY is the very first album that I owned and made me be die hard fan. I still enjoy every single word, melody, guitar rhythm, guitar solo, bass line and drums on every single song. Same old 9 songs are re-recorded in here. They have slightly changed guitar solos, guitar rhythm, bass line, drums and vocal melody as if they were doing live. Good to listen to. Sound is also different. Obviously 90s sound different than 80s.

But I prefer the originals. The rest 7 songs are I think new ones. And all good, all twisted. Deserves 5 stars of course. Any SMF must have it in the collection if you're still hungry. If not, stay hungry.
