Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

World War II in Southern Europe, 1943. The struggle for Europe is at a critical point. Special forces are urgently needed. Command a multinational unit of highly trained men, leading them as a team. Accomplish action-packed, historical missions by defending, ambushing, destroying and attacking. Experience the suspense of mobile community warfare. Pathway to Glory is an action packed, historically accurate strategy game situated in late WWII. The game features a compelling storyline for single player gaming, as well as exciting multiplayer battles locally with Bluetooth or Hot seat, or globally on N-Gage Arena. Pathway to Glory is realistic down to detail, recreating convincingly the harsh reality of the battle zones. To ensure accuracy, historians and location shoots have been used extensively in the development of the game. The main user interface gives an excellent view for the battlefield and the game play mechanics are finely tuned for best possible experience. The player is able to use wide variety of equipment; even artillery and vehicles found from the battlefield are accessible. Every object in the battlefield is destroyable and once destroyed objects remain demolished, giving the player a possibility to manipulate the environment to affect gameplay. The depth of the experience and the vastness of the background work done on the game exceeds anything seen in mobile games before.

  • Global Mobile Community Warfare on N-Gage Arena

  • In addition, all the levels are playable via a Hot Seat system that allows players to share one N-Gage device with friends but still play a multiplayer game against each other.
  • The hybrid real-time gaming features are achieved through a revolutionary "Interrupt" mechanism, whereby players can use some of their soldier's available action points to defend their positions while their opponent is making his or her move.
  • Bluetooth: Playable by 1-6 players over Bluetooth

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty WWII gaming, 8 Jan 2005
Pathway to Glory was hailed by many games journals as being the N-Gage's saviour and saviour it is. Pathway to Glory has taken everything about the N-Gage and made it better through playing the game. This is fair, as the developers Red Lynx knew all of N-Gage's secrets so as to best manipulate them; all is to be said is that they were successful.

The campaign missions of Pathway to Glory are interesting and exhilarating. You play through several historically accurate missions that were carried out by the WWII Allied forces. While occasionally long and drawn out, relief is provided from the suspense created by the turn-based system. You command a squadron of soldiers, all with individual statistics. Each soldier has a number of "points" that can be used on the field; walking, crouching, crawling, shooting and calling in air support all take up these points. Thus you must use them to your best advantage, much like the terrain. Once your points are used up you end your turn, hoping your squadron is safe from all encounters, and the enemy begins their turn.

The AI is impressive and somewhat realistic for a small title. NPCs have fields of view which if you enter unstealthily will allow them to pick your soldiers off with their weapons. Thus, you must use natural and man-made cover or simple lying down techniques to avoid enemy fire.

Of course, the only time AI does not play a role is during multiplayer sessions. These include Bluetooth gaming, Hot Seat gaming and also multiplayer action over the N-Gage Arena. Bluetooth gaming plays the same as Arena gaming, with you and other players taking it in turns to complete objectives or anhialate the competition, but there are also two types of Arena game - ranked and non-ranked. This is interesting but only if you have a high credit limit! Hot Seat gaming is really where this title takes off. Not many people you know may own N-Gages, but that needn't matter, as Hot Seat gaming allows many players to play on one device; you simply just take turns!

This game is a must for any N-Gage owner. There is little that can disappoint you in this title, I suggest all buy it... now!

5.0 out of 5 stars killer app, 9 Dec 2004
    By A Customer
The N-gage started with some very weak titles but this is really excellent. Amazing graphics for a handheld and very high production values overall. It's a strategy game so you have to like that sort of thing (kind of a cross between Hidden & Dangerous and Advance Wars) but if you do, it's very absorbing. It also offers real-time online play and co-operative play over Bluetooth. If Nokia can push out a few more games like this then the N-gage might have a future after all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a brilliant game, a brilliant ONLINE game, 7 Jan 2005
Just to add to what the reviewer from Reading said, this is an excellent strategy game in its own right (they spent a fortune on it, they even filmed hundreds of real soldiers) but it's also an excellent online strategy game, not just locally over bluetooth but online over the internet.

This is the first multiplayer online game you can play absolutely anywhere because the n-gage has its own internet connection that works over the mobile phone network. You can play against people all round the world whenever you like, you don't have to know anyone else with an n-gage to play this multiplayer. On a train journey this is absolutely great at killing time.
