Good or bad? - depends why you want it..., 10 May 2006
Whilst I can see where the previous reviewer is coming from, I think whether or not you like these three CDs depends upon where you are going to listen to them.
I bought this - and others - specifically for listening in the car. The slow crawl to work gets a bit dull with endless music, so I put a good mix of music and comedy on the mp3 player and things suddenly get a bit more bearable.
This collection adds some much needed British voices to my usual round of Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Woody Allen, etc., and it features some classic cuts that roughly span the 1990s (Disc 1), 1970s/80s (Disc 2) and 1950s/60s (Disc 3).
There are many things you will recognise here, such as 'One Leg
Too Few' by Pete & Dud, 'Four Yorkshiremen' by the Pythons, and 'Let's Go For An English' from Goodness, Gracious Me. The last of these serves up a bit of a warning. As many t.v. shows started out on the radio (League of Gentlemen, Alan Partridge, Goodness Gracious Me), it is the radio version you get here, not the t.v. version (nothing to do with it being better or worse, but it can be slightly different than the version you have in your head). Similarly, the Python sketches tend to be live versions.
Of course there are one or two odd choices, particularly in the song department, and you could argue that the net has been cast so wide that there is no coherence. But, when single snippets of comedy are popping up between tunes on the way to work, coherence doesn't matter - each clip lives on its own merits.
So, if you plan to listen at home in one sitting, forget it and buy the DVDs or full performances, as they will be much more satisfying. However, if your drive to work is as annoying as mine and you need the occasional bit of relief, this and similar CDs may take some of the tension out of your shoulders.
Each disc has either 20 0r 21 clips, most of a decent length. So at roughly a fiver a disc the value isn't too bad.
It all comes down to how wide your taste in comedy is, I suppose. Check out the track list and see what you think...

Been done better before, and not even for charity, 25 Jan 2005
I don't see the point to this CD to be fare. All the sketches featured have been on other CDs before and the short clips from Fawlty Towers, one foot in the grave and Hancock, seem really out of place when heard as clips rather than full episodes. If the money raised was going to comic relief or some other charity there might be a point to it but as it is not there is not. If you want to hear the sketches/tracks in context, there are plenty of DVDs and CDs featuring whole episodes rather than just a few minutes worth. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS, to quote blackadder II, its like a broken pencil, pointless

Great for car journeys, 8 Nov 2006
Perfect for keeping in the car, as an alternative to your own music or the radio. Also handy when you're stuck in a traffic jam and need cheering up!
Could have done without most of the music tracks, but overall a good compilation covering thirty years.
