5.0 out of 5 stars The best season of Buffy - good fun, great drama., 11 Aug 2006
By G. M. Ranson "gillmr" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was a latecomer to Buffy but having seen most of the episodes, Season 3 shines as the best. Why? They're all still in high school, Cordelia's still in it with her comic relief, there's still an element of escapism for me as an adult. It's still really funny - after this season, it goes a bit more serious; a bit darker and to places I didn't think it should go. This for me is the peak - even with the whole Buffy/Angel thing!! We get to meet Faith in this season - someone else to shake things up. The Mayor plays a fantastic part in proceedings too - very entertaining.

There are seminal episodes such as The Wish - Cordelia wishes them into an Alternate Universe where things are BAD and we meet Anya.
Doppelgangland is funny with an evil Willow doppelganger from the alternate universe of The Wish.
Gingerbread is great with lots of comedy from the core Scoobies.
My other favourites are Band Candy ( Ethan Rayne, cursed chocolate reducing adults to teens...enter Giles and Joyce); Earshot (almost a follow up to Band Candy with the confirmation of what happened between Giles and Joyce) and Graduation...another belting season finale.

Enjoy the light hearted fun in this season; enjoy Snyder's sarcasm, enjoy the comedy. Enjoy Cordelia's one liners!! Also, enjoy Giles getting cooler with the arrival of Wesley. Giles gets some great scenes - notably in Revelations and Bad Girls as well as the classic Band Candy and The Wish.

The dvd extras are worth watching - though I wish there were a few more commentaries rather than the scripts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great year for Buffy, 5 Mar 2007
By Franklin T Marmoset - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
If there's one thing that season three of Buffy has over the previous two years, it's consistency. The last remnants of The X-Files influence have been swept away, and this year sees a complete lack of poorly executed monster-of-the-week episodes, striking a perfect balance between individual stories and the larger seasonal arc.

There isn't a single stinker this year, but you have got plenty of classics. There's the hilarious Band Candy, which shows a whole new side of Giles; James Marsters returns, all too briefly, as Spike in Lover's Walk; we see a much sexier side of Willow (as a vampire) in The Wish and Doppelgangland; Buffy explores her dark side while dark slayer Faith jumps head first into hers in Bad Girls; and Buffy finally gets her due from her schoolmates in tear-jerker The Prom. As if that wasn't enough, the season comes to a close with the explosive two-part story Graduation, which sees Buffy take on Faith for the undisputed slayer championship of the world, and then it's all-out war as pretty much everyone takes on the Mayor to save Sunnydale.

Although this one doesn't quite hit the emotional highs of year two, the near perfect run of episodes without a single stumble along the way more than makes up for that. A contender for many people's favourite season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this one is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best season of the best show ever!, 28 April 2006
I would have to say that every season is fantastic, but this is my personal favorite, two reasons, Faith and The Mayor, two of the best bad guys in Buffy history. Not only are the story lines fantastic, but the comedy element is also just right, it's not corney yet it's not over done, I highley recomend this and the other 6 seasons of buffy....the best show ever.
