Synopsis
Two features. 'Bichunmoo' is set in fourteenth-century Yuan Dynasty China. Sullie is the illegitimate daughter of a Mongolian commander. When her mother died, her father, Taruga, took her away and planned to marry her off in order to form an alliance with a Chinese warlord. Moreover, Jinha, Sullie's love interest, discovers that Taruga also ordered the massacre of his whole family. Enraged, he learns and masters his family's secret martial art and seeks revenge. Also features 'The Warrior'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, epic cinema., 11 Dec 2006

These are two very different films.

Bichunmoo is a sword fantasy in the same vein as CTHD. It is full of action and has very nice cinematography, but is told mostly through flashbacks, and it is often difficult to tell how much time has elapsed between sections.

The Warrior (often called "Musa: the Warrior") is my favourite asian film.
It is the story of a Korean diplomatic mission to China who are left in the Gobi desert and decide to make their own way back home, despite being harried by both Chinese and Yuan (Mongol) enemies. This is more a historical epic than a martial arts movie - there is no wire-fu; think "Braveheart" in China and you would be on the right track.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantic violence, 20 Sep 2005
By A Customer
I love this film because of the beautiful way it is filmed, the sad story and the lovely music. I love martial arts films, and whilst this is not typical of most of the genre, it certainly didn't disappoint me. This film also draws heavily on its manga origins and the director has paid attention to each shot, so that that manga feel is evident.
However, I think that the love-story element of the film will only annoy a lot of men out there (sorry, don't mean to be sexist, just realistic!). It isn't as full of wires as some films and thankfully there is none of the appalling humour found in so many martial arts films, probably because this is chiefly Korean rather than HK.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warriors? More like grumpy old men!, 12 Feb 2006

Yawn Yawn oh... yawn! There is absolutely nothing in this film for those who come to it wishing to have a magical experience as was given by recent asian cinema offerings ie; 'Crouching tiger, 'Azumi' and 'House of flying daggers' The chracters are not likeable in the least mainly because there is nothing in the story to make us believe they are fighting a worthy cause. The cinematography is dull the direction is uninspiring but if you are soon going to be having a mongul costume party and are looking for some tips as to what to wear then this may be what you need to watch.
