Amazon.co.uk Review
Think what you want about Ludacris, but no one can deny that he is hip-hop's king of choruses. Luda's hooks are big, brassy, and loud; they're tailor-made for club crowds and radio programmers. Some songs, like "Get Back," practically sound like one long hook, every line a potential anthem. At times, it's easy to forget that Ludacris knows how to rhyme too. His taffy-pull verbal style isn't as lyrically intricate as Nas's (who appears on "Virgo") and can't match Trick Daddy's thuggish bravado ("Hopeless"), but few other rappers exude his level of charisma. On "Number One Spot," Luda acts like he's strong-arming his way to the top, but it's really charm that propels the charge. Even on a song like "Two Miles an Hour," dedicated to "those who spend more on their car than their relationship," he's more clever than clownish in selling the concept. Red Light District has its share of filler, but, track for track, Ludacris still delivers satisfaction. --Oliver Wang

CD Description
This is the fourth album from Atlanta based US rapper Ludacris. Featuring a huge amount of guest producers and performers, including The Neptunes, Nas, Sleepy Brown, and old school hip hop legend Doug E. Fresh, the album is an eclectic mixof hip hop tracks drawing inspiration from tribal rhythms through to the Austin Powers theme tune.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Light District, 28 Feb 2005
Wow where did this come from. I have been a fan of luda for many years, ive seen him evolve his very personalised rough style but always been worried that he drops some amazing tracks, but most albums have too many fillers. Im glad to say Red Light District is a very big exception to this.

There are five brilliant tracks:
Number One Spot: Fantasically upbeat track with samples from Austin Powers theme tune.

Get Back: Another upbeat track (a theme of the album) the first single release, the varying speeds really make this work.

Blueberry Yum Yum: A very simplistic track but quick lyrics and subtle beats and background sounds makes a suprising style change.

Child of the Night: another more chilled slightly less energetic song featuring nate dogg. more harmonious song, showing luda with a very slightly softer side

Pimpin all over the world:
Back up to speed again and luda abck at his boasting best, this is what ludacris has come to be all about, infectious hooks and choruses, a sure fire hit (if radio will ever play it)

All songs on this album are there on merit, no fillers, non that let the side down, just all possible hit singles!

4.0 out of 5 stars The King of Fun Rap, 27 Jun 2005
By Amanda Richards "Hotpurplekoolaid" (ECD, Guyana) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
It's hard not to admire Ludacris - that cat's got genuine mojo. Who else but a guy with a sense of humor to match his monumental afro would sing "Scheme scheme, plot plot, I'm coming for that number one spot" while giving shout outs to Mini-Me and Fat B?

The former Atlanta DJ, born Chris Bridges, recorded his first album in 2000, which was repackaged by Def Jam, and then followed up by "Word of Mouf" in 2001 and "Chicken-N-Beer" in 2003. This fourth album does not disappoint, thanks to the catchy "Number One Spot", "Get back", "The Potion" and "Pimpin' All Over the World".

Other stand-out tracks are the quirky "Blueberry Yum Yum" which will repeat on you; the R&B based "Child of the Night" with Nate Dogg and "Spur of the Moment" with DJ Quik; and the laugh out loud "Large Amounts"; but my favorite track is "Two Miles An Hour"

The explicit lyrics make it a bad choice for a family car deck, but once the kiddies aren't around, play it loud and sing along.

Amanda Richards

I was debating whether to buy this for ages. Afterall I hadn't heard alot of Luda, and nether brought one of his albums before. But now I have brought this, I intend to buy the rest as soon as I can.
While Luda has amazing lyrical and rapping talent, in this album he also shows he can make a bangin chorous too.

1. Intro 7/10
A good little rap makes a good intro

2. Number One Spot 8/10
A groovy song to the Austin Powers tune

3. Get Back 10/10
This is a great, banging song, the best one on the album. Turn up the bass!

4. Put your Money feat. DMX 10/10

9. Skit

10. Spur of the moment feat.DJ Quik and Kimmi J. 8/10
Slightly annoying backing music, but fine really

11 Who Not me feat. Small World and Dolla Boy 9.5/10
Catchy, loud song

12. Large Amounts 4/10
One hell of an annoying, crap chorous, but the rest is OK.

13. Pimpin all over the world 8/10
OK!

14. Two Miles an hour 9/10
Catchy song 'bout cars

15. Hopeless feat.Trick Daddy 9/10
