Well, if you don't know by now, Spacecraft films series of space related DVDs are some of the best around. They contain the raw "as it happened" TV and onboard film from historic spaceflights. There is no commentary, just what was broadcast between the astronauts and mission control. Some segments (for example; film showing the astronauts in training for the flight) do have commentaries made by the crew before or after they flew.

This then is the story of Apollo 10. Launched in May 1969 as a full dress rehearsal for the Apollo 11 moonlanding attempt (completed 2 months later). The 2 discs show the crew in training, suiting up for the launch the launch itself (viewed from various angles around the pad), docking with the Lunar Module (LM), TV transmissions on the way to and at the moon, the flight of the LM Snoopy, the redocking, and the flight home.

The real gem of this production is the TV broadcasts the crew made on the way to the moon, while orbiting the moon and then leaving it. This was the first flight to carry a colour TV camera and the crew used it to great effect. When I watch those broadcasts three things always strike me;

1. They were a long way from home!
2. This crew seemed to have a lot of fun up there!
3. When we go back to the moon, although the pictures will be broadcast in HD and will look stunning.....it won't be the same!

This is a great DVD set. Apollo 10 wasn't one of the huge headlining missions. But without it succeeding the moonlanding would have been put back a few more months or might never have happened. It is obvious from the crew comments that they wanted to share the experience with everyone back on Earth. So go on....buy this DVD set, and take yourself back to the late Spring of 1969, when Stafford, Young and Cernan went out 240,000 miles to complete the last test flight before the "big one".

In the words of Gene Cernan " It might sound corny, but the view is really out of this world!"

This exciting DVD set incudes loads of background information, videos and so much more.
A wonderful set for any Apollo fan!
