Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Geared to quality; The compact C-70 ZOOM has much to tempt the enthusiastic amateur photographer. Registering high on the resolution scale with its 7.1 million pixels, it also scores exceptionally well in the zoom category. The bright 5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 38-190mm on a 35mm camera, f2.8-4.8) combines with a 6x digital zoom for 30x magnification power. This impressive performance is ideal for getting closer to the subject - such as on a nature hike, or picking out a favourite player on the field. And because of this camera's great resolution, the digitally enlarged images will still be remarkable. Picture quality is optimised through incorporation of TruePic TURBO, which boosts contrast and colours for even more lifelike results. Moreover, it significantly increases processing speed.

Enabling creative expression;Photographers enjoy immense creative freedom with this compact model. For example, manual control of the aperture and shutter speed lets users work with the light to achieve their own personal look. Many other settings, such as white balance and auto-bracketing, are additionally adjustable, while a host of precision metering systems guarantee optimum image results with the minimum of fuss.

Recording short movie sequences of sporting action or fast-moving subjects, like wildlife, is also very easy. All it takes is a turn of the dial and the scene is saved at 25 fps in VGA or QVGA resolution. Further artistic opportunities are possible with the Super Macro mode, which enables shots from only 2cm away. In order to ensure extended shooting capabilities, this model comes with the powerful new 1230mAh rechargeable battery pack LI-12B.

Providing a clear view; The large 2.0 inch sunshine LCD with 206,000 pixels guarantees a clear view of the pictures, even under a bright sun. With the re-size, red-eye reduction, trimming and rotation editing functions, the images can be adjusted immediately so they are ready for displaying on the monitor or a TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing little compact, 8 Feb 2005
The Olympus C70 is a pretty impressive little camera. OK, not quite as little as the Nikon Coolpix cameras, and their ilk, but it has a vastly superior spec, starting with 7 megapixels and 5x zoom. And it's still a hell of a lot smaller than my 35mm SLR.

The picture quality is absolutely top-notch, and the automatic exposure, focus and white balance are very reliable. In 'P' mode, the camera works straight from the box as a point and shoot, but it has some advanced features such as auto-bracketing, time-lapse, aperture ('A') and shutter priority ('S'), and manual ('M') modes, so it's a good camera to grow with.

The only criticisms I've read in reviews concern the complexity of the menu system, but I don't really have a problem with it. Olympus have provided 'My Mode's where you can save up to 4 configurations, so you could have one configuration optimised for sport, another for low-light shooting, etc. They have also provided menu 'shortcuts' for the two most commonly used menus or sub-menus.

I was unable to decide which camera to buy, for more than a year. I bought the C70 almost as soon as it came out and I haven't regretted it. Great camera, great value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic!, 24 Jan 2005
By Sam Gauci (Esher, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Without a shadow of a doubt, the best camera in its class and the best camera I have ever used! Over the Xmas period I took lots of pictures and I have since compared them with others that my friends and family took. Well the results are incredible and the photos I took are far superior to those taken with other reputable cameras. The ease of use and abundance of useful features make this camera an overall perfect package. The Olympus C-70Z is absolutely incredible and highly recommended! P.s. Buy and extra memory card! The 32Mb card that is supplied is only good for one picture on maximum resolution (about 16 pictures on a reasonable resolution). I bought the 512Mb and on a High quality resolution setting you get just over 300 pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality camera for great results., 1 Mar 2005
    By D. K. Loader "tweety53" (U.K.) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
This is a very good camera at a very good price. It carries all the features you need ranging from simple point and shoot through to enthusiast levels. The quality of build is top class as is the Sunshine LCD. At 2 inches it is a good size and with a display of 204,000 pixels (nearly twice as many as some others) your pics can be reviewed very clearly and easily even in bright conditions.

The results I've had have been excellent with good crisp shots and good colour reproduction. With 7 MP and 5x zoom you have all the power you need for some really great shots. Add to this to all the advanced features on the camera and quality of the Olympus lense you can obtain some really great results.

Why only 4 stars, just a few things. 1. A pity you can't add some conversion lenses as on some of the others in this class. 2.Auto focus tends to hunt a little in low light and 3. Zoom operates in and out fairly quickly making it sometimes tricky to get the exact frame you want.

All in all a very good piece of kit that I'm glad I've got and as others will tell you, buy another Xd card, probably at least 256 mb.
