Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Cyber-shot T3 is Sony's thinnest digital camera to date (as of August 2004), measuring less than three-quarters of an inch. It incorporates an internal Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens that opens instantly when the camera is activated. The camera features a large 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder.

The T3 has sophisticated auto-focus and auto-exposure options to help get the picture right. It allows you to choose from nine settings to match the scene whether it's twilight, portrait, landscape, snow, beach or even fireworks so it is easy to shoot high-quality images even in challenging lighting conditions. And due to Sony's Real Imaging Processor circuit, the T3 is lightning fast. It shoots bursts of up to four full-resolution images at three frames per second.

The camera is equipped with a Transflective Clear Photo LCD that improves the quality of image display by preventing reflected light from interfering with it. Moreover, the new LCD's higher contrast, brightness and resolution ensure more accurate color reproduction.

To keep a slim profile, the T3 camera's Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens operates internally rather than extending beyond the camera's body and its 3X optical zoom ensures great image quality. Equipped with a 0-4X SmartZoom (at VGA resolution), the camera allows you to focus in on the area of interest of your subject by cropping the image size and thus avoiding image degradation. It also has a Magnifying Glass mode in which subjects appearing on the LCD screen can be magnified up to 3.3 times. This mode allows you to see and capture details that would otherwise be difficult to confirm with the naked eye.

With optional Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, the camera captures and plays back high resolution moving images. MPEG-VX Fine mode allows you to record MPEG video with 640x480 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second, up to the capacity of the memory media card being used. The InfoLithium battery will last approximately 180 shots per charge, so you can snap away without fear of running down the charge.

Whether placed next to a TV or PC, there's now a better place to put your digital camera other than a desk or table drawer. The supplied Cyber-shot Station USB cradle accommodates the DSC-T3 camera for playing back slideshows on a TV or transferring images to your PC while charging the camera's batteries. And when connected to a PictBridgecompatible printer, printing a specific image is easy.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Very good small camera, 18 Nov 2004
    I ordered the black version of this camera, which is essentially the same as the silver version. My first impressions are very good, having had it for a week. I'm glad I got it now, as my old camera was becoming a bit long in the tooth (Casio Exilim S2).

    Points to note are:

    - it's surprisingly heavy for such a small camera (which to me indicates quality of build) but I've got used to this now;
    - it's very fast (a reason for my purchase of the camera as I refuse to buy slow cameras as you just end up missing the shot you wanted to take) and the burst mode is great;
    - it is really very small, being about the same form factor as my Casio Exilim S2 but a little thicker;
    - zoom mechanism is completely silent;
    - shutter over lens protects it when not on and in record mode (a nice touch is that when the camera is in playback mode it also shuts)
    - the flash, as can be seen in the picture, isn't massively big (or powerful) but it makes up for this by being quite even (having tested it).

    All in all, aside from very minor niggles, this is a very good camera. There is a lot of scope for professional looking shots with the amount of customisation available when taking photos. Will also be useful when I'm skiing as a video camera as it can record direct to memory stick for as long as you need (!) and the burst shot mode works well.

    I've ordered a 512Mb Memory Stick Duo Pro so that I can store more than the measly amount allowed by the 32Mb Duo card supplied. No doubt this will improve the experience and I recommend budgeting £75 for this in addition to the camera.

    5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 10 Jan 2005
    By Mike (Plymouth, England) - See all my reviews
    never thought about buying a sony camera before this one. basically i was looking for something very small with high quallity photos and video, large screen and with optical zoom. after narrowing it down to 3, the canon ixus 40, panasonic dmx 7 and the sony T3. after many a review page found (with much difficulty due to only being on the market for a couple of weeks) i found some sample pictures. superb. i bought it. the photo quallity is amazing. if you keep it on the monerting focus mde the camera will constantly focus so the photos are always perfectly in focus and it also improves the time from pressing the shutter button to the camera taking the photo, even with the flash because it doest have to pre-focus when you press the button because it already is. this especially helps if you want to take a picture of something that might end quickly. the video mode againis good because unlike many cameras, the sony with constantly focus on objects even after you atart recording, so if the subject moves closer or further from the camera they will still be in focus. very easy to use in terms of the menu system. the screen ios a very high quallity compaired to the panasonic. the panasonics photos are nearly the exact same quallity but the video and the screen is better on the sony, sony having twice the lcd screen resolution. CONS. 1. memory stick duo are expensive. 2. as with any large screen they are much easier to break. 3. no view finder if you require one, dont buy this camera but the screen is better than the rest so it shouldnt bbe a problem to most, including me.
    PROS. photo and video quallity 10/10. size 10/10. i have big hands and it is very easy to use. lens quallity. carl zeiss is superb. screen quallity 10/10. constant focusing, drains battery slightly faster but gives much fastre response time and higher chance of sharp pictures. battery life is good.
    conclusion. this is one of the best cameras if your wanting quallity images, sze style and speed.
