Sixpence None the Richer are one of the best groups I have ever heard. Coming from Texas, they actually sounded more like a Welsh indie band, with better musical arrangements. The themes of their songs were intense and thoughtful - about as far away from Texas (the state, not the band) conceptually as it is possible to imagine. Matt Slocum was the writer and arranger, and Leigh Nash was the beautiful voice that gave life to the songs.

Their one significant commercial success was "Kiss Me", which judging from the last track on the album also made it big in Japan. They had a handful of other tracks that made it onto the mainstream media and into films - a cover of "There She Goes", by the Las; a cover of "Don't Dream its Over" - these are on the album. Their music has also been picked up on several occasions, I believe, for films and television - they are yet another group to have covered Abba's "Dancing Queen".

Those people who were captivated enough to track down more than their eponymous album may be familiar with the other album tracks that have been included. However, I was startled how many of the tracks on the album I didn't know - and I probably have as much of their discography ("Sixpence", "Divine Discontent", "This Beautiful Mess", "The Fatherless and the Widow") as anybody in the UK.

"Breathe" (covered elsewhere in Gregorian Chant, believe it or not), along with tracks 1-4 and the rest of 11-14 I hadn't heard before, although I was aware of collaborations Sixpence had undertaken with other groups, both Christian and non-Christian. All these are excellent, and even with tracks being on the four albums I had, I still felt that the "Best of" collection was an enriching experience.
