From The Studio

Taxi: Former pizza delivery guy Daniel is speed crazy. Embarking on a new career as a taxi driver, his specially modified car is so fast even police radar can't spot him! When he unwittingly gives a high-speed ride to police officer Emilien, he is forced to accept a deal to keep his license: a stint as Emilien's police car driver. Now on the other side of the law, Daniel becomes the unlikely mastermind behind an investigation into a gang of German bank robbers. Aided by his girlfriend, Emilien's mother and a whole squad of pizza delivery boys Daniel and Emilien join forces with hilarious consequences to foil the robbers on foot, on scooters, and of course in Taxis.

Taxi 2: The Taxi gang are back in action again in this car chase packed sequel. This time round Daniel and Emilien get mixed up in the kidnapping of a visiting Japanese politician. Watch out for Daniel's amazing gadget laden taxi, which now has the ability to fly.

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting, charming, and fun, 8 April 2006
By M. FUSCO "yawnmower" (NEW YORK, NY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of the most enjoyable series on film. Basically a silly, one-joke story: a super-charged taxi in Marseilles wreaks havoc, and saves the day, everywhere it goes. But in the hands of Luc Besson the story, and the joke, remains fresh through three films. Well, maybe it slows down a bit in the third when they get off the road and onto ski slopes. But Taxi 1 and 2 never tire (no pun intended). Samy Naceri is the taxi driver with little respect for anything except speed and great driving. Frederic Diefenthal is delightful as his bumbling friend on the force who is serious about crime-fighting and winning his paramour, Petra. Wonderful characters abound in this fast-paced romp. Hollywood cannot make films this much fun and with this much charm.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tres cheesy pour moi, 2 Aug 2005

Dont get me wrong the car and bike scenes in these films are totally excellent and well choreographed but the script is too cheesy and cliched for me. This is a collection of the two taxi films (I believe there is a third now released) which I bought on high recommendations on this website as they said they were both cool, high octane movies with great soundtracks. They were correct on one point these films do have great hip hop soundtracks but unfortunately the excellent car stunts are overshadowed by a cliched and cheesy plot line. Worth three stars for the music and stunts though.

1.0 out of 5 stars .., 26 Jan 2006

These two "Taxi" films are quite the worst French films that I have ever seen. Leave these sort of films to Hollywood as they do them far better ! Think of every cliche from films like "Lethal Weapon", "Stake Out", "The Dukes of Hazzard" , "Police Academy" and "The Pink Panther",add lots of scenes of vehicles getting destroyed, mix it all together with large amounts of hammy acting, inane dialogue , add a threadbare plot and a lifeless soundtrack and ,hey presto, you've got "Taxi" (and "Taxi 2"). I must also add that both films are totally unfunny and that "Taxi 2" is easily the worst film that I have seen for years, beating the recent remake of "The Magic Roundabout" into a distant second.
