4.0 out of 5 stars More of the same...but very pretty, 18 Dec 2004
    By A Customer
I am a little biased as I loved Painkiller for the mindless shooting fest that it was. This is more of the same, but the visuals are stunning, the new weapons are a giggle, and a very, very sick puppy dreamed up the baddies. True the AI isn't all that, the 'plot' if you require one is laughable, and it is short. However it is just great fun. If you enjoyed Painkiller, buy this. I can't put it down.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Shoot 'em Up !!, 13 Sep 2005
    By A Customer
I bought this game because it was on a couple of peoples top 10 lists. I had played all of the Dooms, Quakes, Half Life's, and more recently many of the military games, Medal of Honour, Call of Duty, Soldier of Fortune, etc.

The problem was that as the games are getting more sophisticated and 'mission' led, they require a bigger and bigger slice of time to be invested in them before you get anything meaningful back. Being short of time, I really wanted something like the old Doom or Quake games - games that you can just sit down, switch on and have half an hour of blasting all manner of monsters and foes with some (but not all) thinking involved.

Well, Painkiller is it! It is a well programmed and well balanced shoot 'em up. It combines just the right level of strategy and thought requirement, together with heart pounding excitement. I played the game with my son, swapping over when one of us bit the dust. We played it in the dark and with the volume way up, and when the heavy rock sountrack kicked in (a sign that baddies were going to come out in their hoards) we genuinley felt the panic start and the nerve endings tingling.

The monsters are great and the levels are graphically superb, and if you want a game you can blast away at for 10 minutes or half the night, then this is it. Go get it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best just got better....., 9 Sep 2005

I have to say that considering all the great FPS games on the PC, this is my favourite.
As most have pointed out already, it is fairly mindless, but so what, when a game plays and runs as smoothly as this how can anyone complain??
The graphics are just breathtaking, the sound is a joy to listen to, there are no bad points with this game. The bosses are just amazing to see, usually filling the entire screen, no game has ever had bosses like this one.
The weapons are fantastic, I love pinning enemies to the walls with the stake gun then walking up to them and watching them hang. The physics engine in this game are fantastic, superior to nearly all other FPS.
I cant put into words how much I like this game, its the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
