4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Little Phone, 12 Jul 2005
By Chris Chalk "Chris" (Croydon, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
    (TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I have owned a K700i now for 9 months so I am well versed in its quirks and kinks. The main this is that it's a great little phone, good clear display and relatively easy to navigate. The main menu screen is set out in such away that most tasks are only one level away and generally very easy to find.

The camera isn't really up to standard, even for a camera phone so I definitely wouldn't see that as a selling point you should be concerning yourself with. I used to occasionally when I first purchased it but the quality really rather poor.

On the main front screen of the phone there are easy to access quick icons for Phone Book, Messaging and WAP access. I have really come to rely on this as it makes navigating just so much faster. This is a really intuitive facet to the phone, and is illustrative of the thought that has gone into the user interface.

The main way to navigate on the K700i is via the navigational stick on the front. Over the months this hasn't stayed as responsive as it originally was, especially when clicking down to select an option. The other major bug bear on the phone is the much maligned battery life. This really isn't good enough, toward the tail end of the phones life I have had to charge it every other night, even then it is just about to run out when I do. Now I am a fairly heavy user but this still isn't up to scratch.

Overall the call clarity is excellent, although it could do with more range on the volume. For such a small phone it is unexpectedly easy to use and not too fiddly and the radio is a really welcome addition and works excellently with the hands free kit (which as a side note is excellent for calls as well). I would certainly recommend this phone; it is certainly one of the best in its class.

5.0 out of 5 stars This phone rocks, 29 Jan 2005
    By A Customer
I bought the Sony Ericsson k700i in october and as I work in a mobile phone store and see new phones coming in on a weekly basis, I can honestly say that recent developments in mobiles have been having a hard time matching up to this little gem. There's 42MB of memory for storing videos, MP3's, photos and sounds and the picture quality is fantastic. Granted, it is only a VGA camera and most of the new phones now have at least a 1.3 megapixel camera, however I only use the phone for snapshots and not professional photography! The light on the camera is also great for improving the picture quality in darker conditions. The phone is very user-friendly and well laid out, the FM radio and MP3 player are also pretty handy for long journeys etc. as it saves you from carrying two pieces of equipment around. What else can i say, the phone also features bluetooth and infra-red for connectivity, too many great features to mention! My only reservation about this phone is that the battery life is s**t, i have to charge it up every night. However that could have something to do with the amount i talk, text and fiddle about with the camera etc.

In short, this phone is honestly one of the best phones for its price range out at the moment, I would rate it higher than it's counterparts such as the Nokia 6230, it was also voted as Phone of the Year by "What? Mobile" Magazine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony but so far, 6 Feb 2005
By Paul Madge (West Sussex UK) - See all my reviews

This phone is a gem in terms of both it's looks and functionality. The display is near perfect as is reception and the sophistication of ringtones etc. The photgraphic quality that can be achieved also surpasses previous phones I have owned such as the SE T610 etc. To me there are just two flaws - one minor thing is that although the phone does have a speakerphone it is clumsy to engage and secondly, and far more seriously, there is no ability to expand the puny 40Mb or so memory - what good is an on-board MP3 player with less than 40Mb available? You have to content yourself with the excellent radio for entertainment. These two factors though are the only things that deprive this phone of a five star rating.
