Excellent concert in memory of Steve Marriott!, 6 Feb 2006
Steve Marriott was the nuts & this concert proves just how many bands his music influenced. With modfather Paul Weller, half of Oasis Noel Gallagher, Midge Ure, Zac Starkey, the two surviving Faces - Kenny & Mac, Free key player ‘Rabbit’ and Deborah Bonham amongst others this would have been an amazing gig to get tickets for. If you didn't get to go to the gig, like Steve Marriott, The Small Faces or any of the artists who performed at the concert then this is a MUST HAVE in your collection! I give it a massive 5 out of 5 as it showcases British musical talent at its best!

A Wasted Opportunity, 12 April 2008
There are two live sets from the concert that make this DVD worthwhile viewing for fans of Steve Marriot.
Firstly, a reformed Humble Pie set. All the other members of Humble Pie (marks I & II) unite to perform five blistering tracks from the classic Humble Pie era. It was the first time Peter Frampton has preformed under the banner of Humble Pie since his departure in 1971.
Second, the grand finale - a supergroup which includes Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Ian McLagan & Kenny Jones. Weller, Gallagher & McLagan share the vocal duties on six Small Faces classic. Fantastic stuff!
Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the remaining 14 tracks on this DVD. We get a variety of lesser known artists (e.g. The Mods, Simon Hickling, Dennis Greaves, Max ireland, Tony Rivers, Deborah Bonham etc.). You get the feeling that these are just simply local London based artists and I generally wasn't impressed by their pub rock performances.
The professionalism of this DVD is a bit lacking. From the camera work to the sparse contents. There is no introduction and no captions explaining which song is being played and by which artist. It might also have helped make me more sympathetic towards the "unknown" artists if they had been interviewed about what Steve Meant to them. Instead the couple of five minute extra features on the DVD are rubbish - badly filmed audio free footage of the venue before the gig started and an MTV/VH1 slot about the concerts (comprising mostly of concert footage).
Overall worth buying for Humble Pie reformation and the supergroup ending but in many ways a wasted opportunity.

GREAT "WHITE" SOUL Legends - Musn`t Grumble eh Steve?, 12 Aug 2009
Just looking at the 2 British reviews, one seems to have nicked a couple of my 'obs' from this DVD on another site or my review of the smaller [single] CD of this concert called 'Musnt Grumble' [If so - No offence taken at all if thats the case Kevin?] & then, well Dave I dont know how old you are, however it seems you may not have been around either in the 60s for the very popular Tony Rivers [tho not my cuppa on this!], & Billy Nicholls [STILL touring with The Who as does 'Rabbit' from time-to-time, oh & Ringo`s lad IS a member of The Who!]Bobby Tench - I could go on, but HOW, in gods name didnt you even mention the supreme star of the night &, as recently said - by me & others Ha! - one of the greatest blue-eyed-Soul singers in Steve Ellis [who WAS The Love Affair!]. He sang so sweetly here, there & everywhere that night & I had the pleasure - & several of his demos - of having him as a 'online mate' as a result of this concert when I thought he deserved to be told how brilliant he was on the night....yet no mention of him from ya Dave??? I`ve also got Steve singing at Guildford on, my personal, hero Paul Weller`s solo tour of the same year as this. Weller also plays many instrumentals on Steve`s last couple of solo albums. I wont go on about the 70s 'revival' if ya dinna know 'The Mods' & Dennis Greaves from '9 Below Zero' & 'The Truth' then ya couldna been there....& I`m from Nottingham!
People, who didnt/dont know about the concert, it was a real rushed thing to get together & sold out very, very quickly that organisers knew they coulda picked a bigger venue [as they did for Ronnie Lane`s a few years after but there was a less attendance there &, unfortunately, it wasnt in the same league as this concert despite the re-appearance of Ellis, Paul W, Midge, Greavesy & joined by Townshend, Sam Brown & on....].
I wasnt a great fan of Stevie Marriott`s work with Humble Pie, however they did contribute to the night for the few more 'rockier' geezers in the crowd, however I think the night was one for the Mods. I`ve seen Weller live that many times, I lost count in the early 90s. But this Concert was/IS up there with the best of any of Paul`s. Maybe it was the raw emotion of it all but you had to be there. If you werent there, all I can say is BUY THIS & join in at the end of the 'supergroup`s' [including Ellis...& just about everyone else!] session....WE ARE THE MODS, WE ARE THE MODS, WE ARE, WE ARE, WE ARE............altogether now.......
R.I.P. Steve, Ronnie L, Greg R & Big John Weller.
