Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Quality
A rugged magnesium alloy body provides the first clue that the EOS 20D is no ordinary camera. Canon's award-winning CMOS technology delivers outstanding image quality and 8.2 Megapixel resolution. The DIGIC II architecture drives blistering 5fps continuous shooting with a maximum burst of 23 frame JPEG images, class-leading colour rendition accuracy, quick start-up times and rapid display and zooming of images during in-camera review. JPEG and RAW files write simultaneously with no loss of performance.

Focus
9 auto focus points are carefully distributed across a wide area of the frame for fast, accurate focusing, even with off-centre subjects and particularly with 'rule-of-thirds' compositions.

Distance-linked flash
The E-TTL distance-linked flash algorithm takes factors such as lens distance information and ambient light readings into account for accurate flash metering, even in circumstances such as recomposed shots, or where high or low reflective objects appear in the frame. The camera is compatible with the entire EX-series Speedlite flash range. This includes the 580EX, which transmits colour temperature information for improved colour stability and auto zooms to match the camera's APS-C sensor size.

Lens mount
The EOS 20D is compatible with more than 60 Canon EF lenses, including Canon's EF-S lenses. Built with the EOS 20D photographer in mind, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM and EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM cover popular wide (approx. 16-35mm) and standard (approx. 27-136mm) ranges in the 35mm equivalent.

Full control
An extreme high (3200 ISO) setting extends the camera's wide 100-1600 ISO speed range. Both sRGB and Adobe RGB colour spaces are supported. Digital Photo Professional image processing software permits high-speed processing of lossless RAW files.

Connectivity
The EOS 20D's USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection enables fast download of images to the computer. PictBridge compliant, the camera supports direct printing to any compatible photo printer. It takes both CF and CF-II cards, including cards of over 2GB capacity.

Online sharing
Free membership is included to Canon's online CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, with 100 Megabytes of free storage space for online album storing and sharing. Users can upload images to the site and direct clients, friends and family to secure online 'albums'.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Buying a Canon D20 from Marketplace, 14 Mar 2005
I have used this canon for about 4 weeks and am very happy with it. However, I would like to alert potential buyers that the 'new' sellers proporting to sell cheap D20s on marketplace are actually set to rip you off. It works like this, click on the 'buy this' link and you will get an e-mail from amazon saying that the transaction could not be completed. Then, if you contact the seller (as the sellers suggest) they will always tell you the same thing: They say " I have a contract with Amazon, but the payment system is not working at the moment. If you wnat this camera, e-mail me with your contact details and I will contact Amazon. Amazon will send you an invoice. However, you then pay me directly by Western Union." What then happens is that you get a fake e-mail proporting to be from Amazon. You pay the seller directly...and......no camera will arrive. And, you are not covered by Amazon's gaurantee, because you paid the seller directly. Its a scam, its all over Amazon, and they do not have the warnings posted up front. Will they let this be posted? Hmmm?

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Semi-Professional Camera, 14 Mar 2006
I purchased this camera 2 weeks ago. I was immediately impressed with the resolution, which was better than I expected. I have been so far mainly shooting in Medium resolution which is still large enough to overfill a 19" flat panel. The camera is particularly good at capturing inanimate objects, the colour tones are fantastic. The flash performs exceptionally well. I am an amateur photographer and there are a host of features I have not used before, however the camera is very easy to use in automatic / semi-automatic modes. I recommend this camera to anyone who is familiar with using a film SLR and wants to make a change to digital photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best option., 24 Sep 2005
I had a 300D and recently joined a local camera club to get more ideas. When I saw some of the shots from the 20D used a members to take a few shots, I was immediatly impressed with the handling and overall professional feel.

So, I have just bought my own and been shooting all week with it. I find it very easy to use, and am very impressed with it's speed, both start up time and FPS....if there is enough light, this camera is rapid...more than enough for sports photography.

I use the EFS 17-85mm as my everyday lens, and so far have been very impressed with the quality of images.

It's a camera that will suit all your needs and well.

I don't imagine I'll be changing this camera for some years to come.......even the new 5D does not scare me.

If you can't afford the 20D, the 350D is a very capable camera also (but requies the battery grip as body is small).
