The Black & Decker KA260GTK Sandstorm Gel Tech Sander has a gel grip for maximum user comfort and control. Interchangeable bases provide versatility of orbital sanding for rough surfaces, random orbital action for smooth finishes and a profile sander for contours and mouse sander for cleaning/polishing. Included is a dust extraction cassette, along with accessories and a carry case.

I bought this sander 12 months ago as a replacement for my late father's 1970's Black & Decker sheet sander, which is still in perfect running order apart from the rubber sole-plate (which has inevitably perished over time and much use). Whilst the array of attachments (different sized sanding tools for a wide variety of contours and sizes) is appreciated, the tool itself doesn't function well for the following reasons:

1) The sheets it uses are relatively expensive and clog very easily (particularly on paintwork)
2) the 'velcro' attachment of sheets is supposed to be easy but they tend to fall off or slip easily
3) the machine is maybe over-powerful resulting in poor control and strong vibration, despite the 'gel' hand-grips
4) the dust collector is very fiddly and flimsy and was hopeless when used for sanding plaster walls

This machine may prove useful for small, intricate sanding jobs using the fine tools (which remain unused by myself).
For sanding wood, paintwork and plaster I will stick to using a trusted cork block and loose sheets until I find a suitable old-fashioned sheet sander (with or without dust collection) that takes plain sandpaper!

I found the sander extremely difficult to use. I bought it because I thought that it would be suitable for my small hands. But the motor seems to be far too powerful for the tool causing the sander to move uncontrollably, particularly when trying to sand verticals. Initially the bag to catch the dust continually fell off. Now the base plates fly off whilst sanding, which is really scary!

Like most B&D tools, this is more about availability and marketing than efficient function. One word describes it - lousy. But then I have found that most B&D products are really poor, underperforming, prone to all sorts of stoppages. Never buy their gardening equipment.

What really irritates, though, is the 'international' incomprehensible instructions. Diagrams that are so poorly produced that they look like after thoughts - and don't help you in the least. You have to sort out their poorly designed tools - and then find that they don't work.

If it's the choice of this or the plague - go for the plague.
