Richard Pryor is a great stand up comedian and that's what I was expecting with this DVD. So its a pity that it turned out to be a load of booring bland TV sketches that hardly raised a smile. My advice - do not waste your time and money on this drivel.

I think that Richard Pryor was the funniest person on planet earth. He was so politically relevant. And still is.

But his TV shows are NOT funny (like practically all of his movies are NOT funny). You learn why by watching this 3-DVD-set.

It contains the four 50 minute NBC TV-shows and one NBC 'Special'. It's mostly TV standard stuff that could have been done by anyone else and that almost completely misses the Richard Pryor signature.

BUT BEWARE:
There is a lot of bonus material including outtakes, studio stand-ups and longer versions of sketches that were heavily edited for the TV broadcast. That stuff is hilarious and worth the money for the DVD-set alone!
So all in all it's a must-buy for anyone seriously interested in Richard Pryor's work.

By the way:
Go to YouTube and watch American Native comedian Charlie Hill on the Richard Pryor Show. This IS funny and politically relevant.
