Synopsis
Three features. THE MUMMY is set in Thebes in Egypt in 1719 BC where an evil priest is having an affair with the Pharaoh's mistress, who later takes her own life. As punishment the priest is destined to spend eternity mummified but undead. THE MUMMY RETURNS finds the mummified corpse of Imhotep on it's way to the British Museum in London. There he wakes and continues his quest for immortality. THE SCORPIAN KING tells the story of an alliance that is formed to overthrow the tyrannical ruler called Memnon.

Well done Amazon for offering this fantastic boxset at an awesome price! It really is a bargain. I personally haven't got round to watching the Scorpian King yet, but that's only because I love The Mummy and The Mummy Returns so much! The films beautifully encapsulate the humour of the era in which they are set, in particular John Hannah's fantastic portrayal of Johnathan, a hapless public school archaeologist. Rachel Weisz is, as ever, a pleasure to watch, playing feisty Evie. The action scenes skillfully move from comic to downright scary! All round superb acting, great storylines and great fun.

Summers continues to make a mockery out of the horror genre but there are some enjoyable parts about his films.

The Mummy:An Indiana-style adventure with some good & funny moments. The effects are just on the verge of being cheesy and overused but the film still gets away with it and is quite agreeable in a straightforward kind of way, especially in the skimpy Egyptian outfit department.

The Mummy Returns: Over the top CGI fest, obviously a cash cow for the Franchise, predictable plot/lines/action sequences. Some very irritating characters and dumbed down original ones. Still some of the baddies do an ok job and some scenes are quite enjoyable even if it's just on the eye-candy department.

The Scorpion King: A laughable joke aimed at the wrestling crowd. It's the Miami beach version of Conan with a hilarious soundtrack that doesn't go with the film. Still I hate to admit I enjoyed some of the battle scenes and I can't really hate the Rock.
