A Hangover Record We All Deserve To Get, 23 Oct 2004
In 2002, like it or not, Jaret Reddick had penned one of that year's popular summer anthems (Girl All The Bad Guys Want), their album Drunk Enough To Dance was a great success and Grammy nominations were given to Bowling For Soup.In the notes, Jaret tells everyone that he hopes the new album brightens up your day and many days to come. If anyone had heard the new single 1985, then this album will make everyone raise a smile or have a chuckle. The opening song Almost has a very Simple Plan type riff at the start but its so hooky you know this is not Simple Plan. The lyrics here are also very funny, Reddick knows how to write songs that can be related to yet he can poke fun at them, like Ohio which is about wanting a girl to stay in the Lonestar State with the line (The mexican food sucks north of here anyway) or turning a broken down relationship into a boxing match (Down For The Count) or listing all the bad things that happen to you as a kid on the bonus track Somebody Get My Mum. The music as well is really great, lyrics aside, Bowling For Soup know how to rock, couple of acoustics pop up on My Hometown and Friends O' Mine, while the pogo bounce guitars on Shut Up And Smile sound great when singing "all we need is love and beer". The remaining tracks are a jam in a studio using the Ohio tune with hilarious results and not forgeting the new version of Belgium. Surely this album has enough on it?! Hell yeah it does and buy it now!
