Synopsis

Poor Scott (Scott Mechlowicz) finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him and then thinks his European pen-pal Mike is trying to start a homosexual affair via e-mail. Once he realizes Mike is actually Mieke, a beautiful German girl, he and his buddy Cooper (Jacob Pitts) take off for Europe on a madcap quest to find her, discovering plenty of raunchy sex along the way. Hooking up with nerdy Jamie (Travis Wester) and his twin sister (Michelle Trachtenberg), they bond with soccer thugs in London, battle mimes in France, eat brownies in Amsterdam, guzzle absinthe in a European dance club, and generally raise mayhem. Gags include a grope-happy train passenger, a child impersonating Hitler, and some near incest. Matt Damon cameos as the punk rocker who belts out the hit song "Scottie Doesn't Know." Lucy Lawless (XENA) is a dominatrix in an Amsterdam sex club. The laughs are well earned and there's plenty of nudity and sex to satisfy the demanding audience for films of this sort (it's directed and produced by the team behind OLD SCHOOL and ROAD TRIP). Best of all are the performances from the four leads, who eschew the usual over-the-top mugging in favor of a more low-key approach to the material.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, 10 Sep 2006
By Andrew Kerr (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Eurotrip tells the story of Scotty Thomas (Scott Mechlowicz), who after a fair few drinks returns home only to tell his internet buddy - who he believes is a man - to leave him alone, later to discover to his horror, that it was actually an attractive young woman who he has spent years speaking to over the net, and until he told her to leave him along wanted to come to America to see him. So Scotty and three of his friends Cooper (Jacob Pitts) Jamie (Travis Wester) and Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg) decide to embark on a journey of a lifetime across Europe in search of her. What they find and get up to on their way, in England, France, Holland, and more, you would not believe. There are so many details in this film which stand out and I enjoyed every second. From Jenny's jaw dropping metallic dress, the German boy Nazi wannabe, the nude beach `zombie' scene (you'll see what I mean), the twins making out, the new pope and the ironic music `Scotty Doesn't Know.' are to name just a few. Eurotrip really is a hilarious film which leaves no stone unturned in the name of comedy. The actors are amazing in their roles and Michelle Transtenberg is simply sensational in her character as Jenny and brings a magic to the film which would probably have been disappointing without her. The film is something that you just have to watch to believe and believe me when I say you will think it's great too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better and sweeter than expected, 1 Mar 2007
By Franklin T Marmoset - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This one is a teen comedy. Scott Mechlowicz stars as predictable nice guy Scotty, whose summer starts when he's dumped by Lana Lang out of Smallville. When Scotty discovers his German pen pal is a hot girl, he sets off on the Euro Trip of the title with his de rigeur obnoxious mate (Cooper, played by Jacob Pitts) to win her heart. Along the way, they meet up with twins Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg) and Jamie (Travis Webster), and many attempts at bawdy sex humour ensue.

When I use the word 'attempts' I don't mean to suggest that Euro Trip is not funny. It is, actually, very funny. What's odd about this one is that no matter how hard it tries for the gross-out moments, no matter how vigorously the makers strain to acheive a certain level of crudity, the film can't help but emerge as strangely cute and naive. It's like a young guy who wants everyone to believe he's a badass but he can't pull it off because underneath it all he's just too damn nice. This is not a criticism at all. In fact, I think the film is all the more appealing for its sweetness.

The four stars have a great chemistry together, always giving you the feeling that these are genuine friends. Mechlowicz makes for an engaging good guy, Pitts is likable as the crude jerk, Webster is funny as the nerdy boy twin, and Trachtenberg gets to be much sexier than she ever was on Buffy.

Euro Trip isn't going to tax your brain, but it's more charming and innocent than you might expect, so comedy fans would do well to give this one a go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good film., 10 Sep 2004
By A Customer
Things aren't going well for Scotty, the lead character in Euro Trip. It's graduation, but his girlfriend breaks up with him while his parents are video taping it. At the graduation party that night, he learns (through the medium of song!) that his girlfriend was cheating on him with the lead singer (Matt Damon in a cameo) and apparently most of the band too. Then his German pen pal "Mike" starts coming on to him, just like Scotty's best friend warned him he would. Of course, he finds that "Mike" is really Mika, a hot girl, so goes off to Germany with a bunch of friends to find her. Obviously, things don't go to plan, and they end up making detours to London, Paris and of course...Eastern Europe! It's a funny film, with lots of nudity for the guys, and Scotty for the girls. Definately a rival for American Pie, in my opinion. It's worth a watch and remember "don't tell Scotty, cause Scotty doesn't know!"
