2.0 out of 5 stars They've missed the best bits out!, 2 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This DVD starts dissappointingly on the 3rd round of the championship, so you are already left feeling short changed. You are then further let down when there is no coverage of the last laps of the best race of the season in France (the battle between Arnoux and Villeneuve), although it is mentioned as a close finish!!
The DVD 'extras' are merely ads for other products.

3.0 out of 5 stars Schecktor does it, and Williams start to shine., 19 Oct 2009

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
The DVD starts with the customary run down of "musical chairs" and notes which drivers have moved to various teams, and there seems to be a lot of movement apart from Lauda who remained with Brabham.

The disk then kicks off from the third Grand Prix of the season with Laffite looking strong after winning the first two races. Footage of all the cars driving out of the pits is used perfectly as the narrator explains how all the teams had been working hard to develop a car using the same aerofoil principle of the winning Lotus from the previous year. The Lotus' themselves looked different having shed their black and gold livery as their John Player Special sponsorship had ended.

Laffite's dominance was quickly challenged by Scheckter in the Ferrari and the two were joint first in little time, but the Ferrari's were on good form and Scheckter was to go on to gain the title. 1979 saw flashes of white lightning though and it was clear that the Williams cars had started to become competitive.

There is more footage of the cars on this volume, though not necessarily during a race - there is one scene where the cars pull out for a practice and every driver is reeled off in a long and not particularly exciting fashion! Unfortunately we weren't treated to seeing Villeneuve's incredible battle with Arnoux for second place during the French Grand Prix - arguably the highlight of the season, but there is plenty of footage showing the start of many of the races.

In a nutshell: 1979 was an important year in F1, it saw the first win by a Turbo-Charged car (Renault), it saw Williams get their first win, and it was the year which introduced Nelson Piquet. Chunks of the season are missed on this DVD so it is far from perfect, but for enthusiasts this is still the best way to see some heroes of the sport and experience some of the sights and sounds from a great season.

4.0 out of 5 stars The 1979 F1 season, 8 Jun 2009

(REAL NAME)
Really good review of the '79 season with some unexpected material. For instance, a shot of the original Ensign-Ford N179 with its front-mounted radiator! The commentary is good and informative and there are many fascinating scenes fram the '79 season.
On top of that, excellent & quick personal service from Bob's Dvds.
I mean, me living overseas the UK had the dvd within a couple of days from ordering it!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good seasons racing, Missed largely on this DVD
I own many of these titles from the Brunswick archives and I am mostly pleased to have them, they are the only way to see the formula one scene as it was from 1970 to 1980. Read more
