A magnificent tribute to one of the first DJs to really remix tracks for the dancefloor -- the groundbreaking Walter Gibbons, a key force in the sound of Salsoul Records during its early years! Gibbons' approach was always dramatic -- really pulling apart and remixing the tracks with a groove that differed from the original -- and working in styles that were later taken up more heavily in early hip hop and house production, but which were quite revolutionary at the time. In the years before Larry Levan rose to prominence, Gibbons was one of the first DJs to move from the clubs into the studio -- and the result is an amazing legacy of remix work for Salsoul, nearly all of which is captured here in an overstuffed 3CD set! The set features 29 tracks in all, plus a wonderfully done booklet on Gibbons' life, times, and technique -- with tracks that include Gibbons' remixes of "Your Cheatin Heart" by Robin Hooker Band, "Cheaters Never Win" by Love Committee, "I Wish That I Could Make Love To You" by Double Exposure, "Catch Me On The Rebound" by Loleatta Holloway, "Block Party" by Anthony White, "Nice N Naasty" by Salsoul Orchestra, "As Long As You Love Me" by True Example, "Ice Cold Love" by Double Exposure, "Rocket Rock" by Luv You Madly Orchestra, "Salsoul 3001" by Salsoul Orchestra, "Super Queen" by Cellophane, and "Hit & Run" by Loleatta Holloway
