Improves on the original ..., 11 Oct 2004
.. which, Lord knows, was a hell of a game to start with. The single player game extends the original with new weapons, including the flame thrower, borrowed from this same company's Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It also has a much improved explosion, fire and particle smoke system. However, this eye candy comes at a price in terms of FPS; the game runs noticeably slower than the original, especially on some of the bigger, outdoor levels. When you're inside buildings, you won't notice so much. (Playing on a Athlon XP 2400+ with a Radeon 9800 Pro). The only other quibble about the single player game is (here comes that same old broken record!) it's a tad on the short side. That seems to be par for the course for expansion packs. But it's really the multi-player game that shines here: I mean, wow! This is an absolutely HUUUUGE leap of the original's (admittedly, somewhat limited) efforts. Think Call of Duty meets Battlefield 1942. The maps are much, much bigger, and yes, you can finally drive vehicles in multi-player game. Only tanks, jeeps etc though; there's no pilotable aircraft. If, like me, you've always balked at the idea of paying out money for decent multi-player only games, then this is the expansion pack for you.
